Ever since the firstSonic the Hedgehoggame released in 1991, the blue blur has made his fair share of allies and enemies. Sometimes, his friends are able to star in games of their own, such as Tails in Tails Adventure or Knuckles and Team Chaotix in Knuckles' Chaotix.

However, in more recent years, Sonic the Hedgehog has taken the lead once more. Though his friends may appear as playable characters in his games, the story always points back to the fastest hedgehog alive. It’s time for Sonic to take a step back and let his friends step into the spotlight with games where they play the leading role.

Sonic Dream Team: Rouge the Bat winking during the intro.

8Rouge The Bat

Fly In The Freedom

Rouge the Batis a spy with a love for anything shiny and valuable. She’ll do what it takes to get her hands on jewels and treasures, even if a little thievery is involved.

If Rouge had her own game, the levels would likely be a mix of stealth missions and treasure hunting, similar to how her stages were in Sonic Adventure 2. As a nod to the game she was introduced in, Rouge could even have a few missions where she had to chase someone down in her own version of the Batmobile.

Metal Sonic in Sonic Superstars in his signature blue paint.

7Metal Sonic

The Fastest Robot Alive

While many Sonic games let you play as the heroes, few let you play as the villains. That would make a Metal Sonic game all the more interesting. Dr. Eggman created Metal Sonic as a counter to Sonic’s speed. Despite being a machine, Metal Sonic is able to keep up with the blue blur and fight him on his own terms.

A game starring Metal Sonic would put the villains into the player’s control, letting us see what Eggman and his minions get up to on a daily basis. It could even bring back familiar faces like Sage, Orbot, and Cubot to help Metal Sonic along the way.

Blaze the Cat clenching her fist in Sonic Generations.

6Blaze The Cat

Return To The Sol Dimension

Blaze the Cat is the princess of the Sol Dimension and protector of the Sol Emeralds. Though she played a major role in both Sonic Rush games and the 2006 Sonic the Hedgehog title, she has yet to be the sole star of her own game.

If Blaze the Cat were to take on the role of the main heroine, it would likely be because the Sol Emeralds were taken. In her adventures across the Sol Dimension, we would better get to know the land Blaze was destined to protect. This game could also bring back familiar faces from the Sonic Rush games, like Marine the Raccoon and Eggman Nega.

Jet the Hawk looking smug in Sonic Riders.

5Jet The Hawk

The Babylon Rogues Strike Back

The Babylon Rogues, led by Jet the Hawk, made their appearance in the Sonic Riders games. Together with Wave the Swallow and Storm the Albatross, they’rea group of thievesthat have existed for centuries, passed down from leader to leader.

If Jet was able to get a game of his own, the other two members of the Babylon Rogues would likely join him. Jet could speed through his stages, letting Wave and Storm help him with problems he couldn’t solve alone. The game could resemble Sonic Adventure 2, with each of the Babylon Rogues having their own unique gameplay style. It’s high time the Babylon Rogues made a comeback.

Tails holding a gem in Sonic the Hedgehog.

4Miles “Tails” Prower

His Brilliant Mind Solves Problems His Tails Can’t

Miles “Tails” Prowerpreviously starred in two games of his own, back when his character was being fleshed out. Tails Adventure and Tails' Skypatrol were both released for the Game Gear in 1995, though the twin-tailed fox hasn’t had any of his own games since.

A lot changed about the Sonic franchise since then. A modern game starring Tails would make use of both his ability to fly to access new locations and his brilliant mind, capable of creating unique gadgets. Some stages could have you riding in his Tornado, either flying high through the skies or shooting down enemies on the ground. His game could be a fun mix between his playstyles in both Sonic Adventure games.

Sonic the Hedgehog - Knuckles the Echidna climbing.

3Knuckles The Echidna

Anything To Protect The Master Emerald

Knuckles the Echidnaplayed a major role in both Sonic & Knuckles and Knuckles' Chaotix. Though he’s been playable since then, the protector of the Master Emerald hasn’t seen the spotlight without Sonic stepping into it with him.

If Knuckles had his own game, the echidna would likely be trying to retrieve the Master Emerald again. His gameplay would include treasure-hunting stages similar to the Sonic Adventure series, as well as stages where his fists do the talking. Familiar foes like Rouge the Bat and Dr. Eggman would likely serve as the game’s antagonists. It would also be an excellent chance for us to learn more about the ancient echidna civilization.

Silver the Hedgehog smiles triumphantly.

2Silver The Hedgehog

Psychic Powers Can Change The Future

Silver the Hedgehog made his debut in the 2006 title Sonic the Hedgehog, where he tries to save the future from its dark fate by killing Sonic the Hedgehog. Upon realizing he’d been misled, he joins the blue blur’s side instead.

We know little what became of Silver’s future after Iblis was defeated, only that it wasfree of the terror Iblis caused. A game starring Silver would be the perfect chance to explore that future, meeting the descendants of characters we know and love. Blaze could even make an appearance, transported from the Sol Dimension, to help her hedgehog friend out once again.

Amy Rose poses in Sonic Generations.

1Amy Rose

It’s All About Girl Power

Amy Rose has been a staple in the Sonic series since she was first introduced in Sonic CD. Starting off as only Sonic’s self-proclaimed girlfriend, Amy has fought her way into having more character depth withher signature Piko Piko Hammer.

An Amy Rose game might have the pink hedgehog setting out on a journey to save her hero captured by Eggman for a surprising change. She can beat down threats with her hammer, divine what path to choose with her tarot cards, or rely on friends to help her through problems she can’t face alone. In the end, Sonic probably won’t date her, but Amy will get the satisfaction of being strong enough to save those she cares about instead.
