Summary
To celebrateAlien: Isolation’sten year anniversary, Creative Assembly creative director Alistair Hope has announced that a sequel is finally in development.
“It’s been nothing short of incredible to witness your passion for the game over the years and see it reach so many players around the world,” Hope penned in a letter to the community onTwitter. “Your boundless enthusiasm, excitement, screams (1) and steely courage in the face of cinema’s greatest killer, have been profoundly rewarding.
“It was a dream project brought to life by a brilliant team, and the reception you have given it over the years is extraordinary. On the 10th anniversary, it seems only fitting to let you know that we have heard your distress calls loud and clear. Today, I’m delighted to confirm, on behalf of the team, that a sequel to Alien: Isolation is in early development. We look forward to sharing more details with you when we’re ready.”
It’s Been A Long Time Coming
Alien: Isolation is often regarded as one of the best Alien games of all time. But asIGNreported in 2015, publisher Sega wasn’t happy with its performance. While it’s now revered as a critical darling with a passionate community behind it, Isolation sold just 2.11 million copies in its first year.
However, it’s also worth pointing out that the survival horror genre has seen a huge resurgence in the decade since. At the time, many of the more recognisable icons were leaning further into action (Isolation launched just two years after the maligned Resident Evil 6), leaving indies likeAmnesiaandOutlastto pick up the torch. But the genre as a whole has returned to its roots more recently with Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, Village, and several remakes, as well asAlan Wake 2andSilent Hill 2 Remake.
Now is the perfect time for Alien: Isolation to make itslong overdue comeback.
