When you learn that a large part ofYs X: Nordic’sgameplay is taking your ship from one island to another and roaming the open waters, fishing might be one of the first things that come to mind. Though you won’t be doing a lot of fishing in this game while on the sea since most fish are found on islands themselves.
The game also has a handy system to help you finish your collection, which not only gives you various rewards but also lets you make some penguins happy. However, to get all the respective fish, you have to visit certain islands.
How Fishing Works In Ys X: Nordics
When you first start playing Ys X: Nordics, you won’t instantly be able to start fishing. This mechanic unlocks once you reach Termina Island through the main story, which isalso the place where Sandras breaks down due to all the water currents. As you land on this island, you can talk to the two people fishing on the beach to learn about it.
Once it’s unlocked, you can essentially fish anywhere near the water bypressing the button on the top left and then clicking “fish”. However, there’s a high chance of you not getting any fish unless you specifically do it in various fishing circles that can be found on almost every island.
While these circles are easy to see, theycan also be easily missedif you’re not paying attention to the surrounding water.
Once you enter the fishing menu, you can first scroll through all the different types of bait you have on the bottom right. Each baitgets you different types of fish among small, medium, large, and ancient. You’ll also be able to see a special fish icon on the top right of some of these bait in specific locations.
When you see this, you’re guaranteed toget a new fish when you use that bait for the first time. Once you select your bait and get a fish on the line, you simply have to mash the button shown on the bar at the top while also following all the commands given to you on the middle of the screen. Once the bar is full, you’ll get the fish.
After fishing for a while, you’ll get the green bar on the left to fill up. Once it’s full, youcan use it to get a massive boost to the top bar.
Where To Find Each Fish

While most fish can be found in multiple spots, the areas mentioned in the tables below areone of the first few placeswhere you’ll be able to get them.
Carnac Waters
Termina Island
This is the only fish you’ll find whilefishing on the beachas you unlock the mechanic.
Cicatrix
Viewpoint Isle
You’ll visit this island regularly as you progress through the story, and you need to reach the Marsh area to get this fish. In this area,you’ll see a pool just before you’re about to reach the Old Man.
Ozmid Expanse
Krangal Island
You’ll see thepool to fish to your rightas soon as you enter the island on the dock.
Can be found on the left side of the map once youenter the cave area of Viewpoint Isle. The first time you enter here will be after you unlock Mana Sense.
you’re able to find it once youreach the Coast area of Viewpoint Isleafter going past the point of unlocking the Mana Barrier for your ship. The pool can be found right beside the travel point of this area.
Can be found in thesame pool of Marsh areaon Viewpoint Isle as Marine Amana above.
Marine Triangle
Haze Island
You can find the pool on the very right end of the beach you land onwhen you come to Haze Island, which is initially introduced as Unknown Island.
As you progress into Haze Island, you’ll notice a fishingpool near the first chestyou come across where you can get this fish.
There’s another pool in the Coast area on Viewpoint Islefound on the lower left sideof the map where you can find this fish.
Specular Bay
Ruined Capital Of Ribe
Found in the poolnear the first chestyou’ll see as you start exploring this area.
Flumen Strait
Grotto Isle
Fish pool can be found on the beachas soon as you disembark.
Serenes Island
Once you reach the Cave 2 area, you canfish near the middle chesthere.
Sonnelia Basin
Odd Rock Isle
The pool for this fishcan be found on the beachnear the travel point.
Raoul Darksea
Seabed Temple Of Aegir
Found on the pool in the water as soon as you disembark.
Once you reach the Front Half 3 area, surf through the water andreach the deeper end in the bottom partto find the pool for this fish.
Everywhere
Found in open waters
you may find this fish bytaking part in Tuna Fishingall across the waters.
Found on the beach in the right corner, which is also thenorthern edge of the Haze Islandmap.
Orlen Islands
You’ll find a water body in themiddle of the Raxel Plains areaof Orlen Islands where you can fish Hineria.
Fish in one of thetwo big pools leading into the main entranceto the temple.
Reach the Front Half 3 area of the temple andyou’ll see the pool as you progressjust a bit.
As soon as you enter the Forbidden Lands area, you’ll seetwo pools on the platform you spawn on. Fish on either of these to get Wishstar.
For the final fish, you simply have to surf at the bottom of the Forbidden Lands area and go around the tree until you see a runestone.Land on the platform with this runestone and fish thereto get this last fish.
