Summary

Ubisoft’slong-rumored remake ofAssassin’s Creed IV: Black Flagmight be coming sooner than you think. How soon? How does next year potentially sound?

According to reliable insider Tom Henderson of Insider Gaming, the game is “well into development.” More specifically, according to Henderson, prior to Assassin’s Creed Shadows getting delayed to 2025, the Black Flag Remake was targeting a November 2025 release window. Per Henderson, the delay of Shadows has impacted Ubisoft’s planned roadmap of future AC titles, including a multiplayer game, as well as a mobile game.

Henderson concluded his report by revealing that gameplay of Edward Kenway sailing was within Ubisoft’s upgraded Anvil Engine. The Anvil Engine has been the basis forAssassin’s Creed Valhalla,Mirage, as well asShadows, along withSkull and Bones, among other titles, AKA, some of Ubisoft’s most recent offerings.

The Black Flag Remake Has Been A Constant Rumor

Gamers might recall that back in 2023,it was rumored that Ubisoft was in the early stages of planning a Black Flag Remake. At the time, those rumors suggested that Ubisoft Singapore would be heavily involved due to their experience with Skull and Bones and the ocean technology within it.

Then, earlier this year in June, Ubisoft’s CEO Yves Guillemot shared that numerous remakes are in the works. In a Q&A postedto Ubisoft’s website, Guillemot said the following:

Firstly, players can be excited about some remakes, which will allow us to revisit some of the games we’ve created in the past and modernize them; there are worlds in some of our older Assassin’s Creed games that are still extremely rich.

Essentially, the remakes have been confirmed to be coming, though it’s likely that no one expected them, or at the very least the first remake, to be coming so soon. Granted, the delay of Shadows could push the Black Flag Remake into 2026, however, even with a 2026 launch, that’s still particularly soon. It certainly begs the question as to which games are also in the works, and how soon they could be debuting as well.
