Ubisofthas announced thatAssassin’s Creed Shadowshas been delayed to June 05, 2025, with the reception toStar Wars Outlawsmentioned as one of the reasons why.
With a brand-new Assassin’s Creed game that finally does what fans have been asking and takes the series to Feudal Japanright around the corner, you’d think that Ubisoft would be pushing it harder than ever. That hasn’t been the case, though, as the studio has been strangely quiet about the upcoming game.
Ever since the game was last showcased at Gamescom, Assassin’s Creed fans have wondered why it’s suddenly slinked into the, pardon the pun, shadows. Things haven’t looked too good lately, especially since it was revealed thatUbisoft had suddenly cancelled press previews that were set to take place soon- the reason why has now become clear, as Shadows has officially been delayed.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows Delayed To June 06, 2025
Earlier today,Ubisoft shared a press release that revealed its updated financial targets for the next fiscal year. The highlight of the release is that Assassin’s Creed Shadows is being delayed from its planned release of November 12 all the way until February 14. Ubisoft notes that the game is feature complete, but that the “learnings from Star Wars Outlaws' release” has caused it to prove more time for polish.
Ubisoft also confirms that Shadows will be moving away from the “traditional” season pass model. All players will now be able to play the game at the same time on release day and those who pre-order the game will not get the first expansion pack for free, seemingly doing away with early access launches from the studio.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows will also mark the return of Ubisoft games releasing onSteamfrom launch, which probably doesn’t look good for UbiPlay.
Although Ubisoft’s near-silence on the game over the past few weeks means that this doesn’t come as much of a surprise, it is a rare move from Ubisoft to delay one of its games, especially something on the level of Assassin’s Creed. While it might be a shame for those wanting to play it this year, any extra time for polishing it up is never a bad thing, especially after Outlaws' buggy launch.
