Summary
Ubisofthas confirmed in a recent social media post thatAssassin’s Creed Shadowswill bring back the recruitment summoning mechanic from Brotherhood, although we don’t yet know how deep the mechanic is going to be.
Ever since Assassin’s Creed Red was re-revealed as Shadows earlier this year, a lot of the conversation surrounding the game hassadly been taken up by the usual disingenuous crowd calling it “woke”. That’s even more of a shame than usual, though, as the details that Ubisofthas shared about Shadows make it sound like a stealthy return to form.
Ubisoft has already highlighted several features that are returning from past Asssassin’s Creed games, such as double assassinations, but its most recent confirmation might be the most exciting yet. Over on Twitter, the official Assassin’s Creed account shared an image of Naoe summoning recruitsfrom the Creed to help her out in battle.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows Is Bringing Back Brotherhood’s Recruit Mechanic
Alongside showing the recruits in action, the post from Assassin’s Creed’s official Twitter page confirms thatplayers will be able to “call your shinobi recruits for support in combat”, suggesting that the mechanic will work like it did when it was first introduced in Brotherhood. Fingers crossed that recruits are more helpful in Shadows than they were in Assassin’s Creed 3.
While Naoe and Yasuke do have some surprisingly different movesets from one another, it seems likely that Yasuke will also be able to summon recruits to help him during battle.
This isn’t the first time that Ubisoft has acknowledged that the recruit system is returning, but it does seem to be new information for a lot of players. When Shadows was first revealed, its official website claimed that players would be able to “build your network of spies to be your eyes and ears”, while also pointing out that some recruits will have special abilities to help clear missions.
That certainly sounded like an upgraded recruitment mechanic, but it’s now been confirmed by Ubisoft that they’ll also be summonable during combat. We don’t yet know if they’ll also have recruit missions like they did in past games, but it’s still nice to see the mechanic return after having not properly appeared since Assassin’s Creed Syndicate.
