Summary
Astro Botis absolutely jam-packed with cameos. Out of the 300 bots you can rescue,a whopping 160 of them are dressed up as characters from other PlayStation titles, ranging from the modern greats likeGod of War,Horizon, andUncharted, to the more obscure and forgotten classics such asSly Cooper,Ape Escape, Gravity Rush, and Alundra.
Understandably, the discovery of characters from these lesser known titles has inspired many to replay some of the classic games from PlayStation’s celebrated history. In that sense, Astro Bot has accomplished one of the main things that director Nicolas Doucet was hopeful for before the game was released, but he also hopes that it will inspire new gamers to try out PlayStation’s classic titles for the first time.
In a behind the scenes video(thanks GamesRadar) discussing how the idea of Astro Bot’s many cameos came about (which you can find embedded below), Doucet explains that he hopes that “younger generations” will play Astro Bot, see the cameos from PlayStation’s veteran mascots and “be inspired to go off to these older games to actually try them.”

For those that have already played Astro Bot, it can be very difficult not to make up a list of all the PlayStation titles you want to replay or play for the first time.Full levels based on Ape Escapeand LocoRoco do a terrific job opf making you want to play those older games, and some of the more obscure cameos keep things vague enough for you to want to Google them and see what they’re actually from.
Astro bot isn’t even finished shoving cameos into the game either, as it’s already been announced thatfree time trials will be added as DLC in the future, which will add more VIP bots to collect.These cameos are already speculatedto include characters from the likes of Assassin’s Creed, Worms, Stellar Blade, and more.Just don’t go expecting Spider-Man or Final Fantasy to show up.
