There is no wrong way to playBaldur’s Gate 3, or so they say. Larian’s pathbreaking RPG puts player freedom at the forefront, and lets you tackle obstacles in whatever way you can think of. There are countless ways to reach your goal, and you can get as creative as you want. However, while there’s no wrong way, there’s certainly a way you can miss a lot of content or face dire consequences.

The game encourages you to be creative and not tackle every problem with a sword. However, there are times that our decisions have led to a major mess. We thought we were being clever, but, in truth, we were only sabotaging ourselves. Fans have taken to Reddit to discuss all the ways they messed up their playthroughs.

Freedom Comes With A Price

The original post comes from a first time player who was told “there’s no wrong choices in this game.” Unfortunately, they thought that meant their choices had no consequences. And so they went on to:

Not recruit Lae’zel because of her attitude, complete the Gauntlet of Shar without Shadowheart in the party, prompting her to leave, completely miss House of Hope and the Githyanki Creche, and infiltrate Moonrise Tower from the back, completely missing out on Jaheira, and finishing the game with everyone but Karlach dead. And Karlach would have also died if it wasn’t for someone telling her to upgrade her Infernal Engine.

While this doesn’t sound all that bad from a quest perspective, think of all the content they’ve missed out on. It’s evident that they have regrets over the decisions of their playthrough, but was probably made to feel better by the comments.

One comment noted how Theo Solomon, the voice actor for Wyll, sold his entire party’s goods and weapons in Act 1 to get a cool axe, only to get stuck at a fight because no one else had weapons or spells.

Many others, including myself, never even came across Gale or Lae’zel, resulting in the missing out of two big hitters for their party. Some comments also mentioned that they never even went to the Last Light Inn, missing out on a major chunk of Act 2 content and context. Not taking Astarion along to fight Cazador was also one of the recurring comments.

However, most of these mistakes are way more common than you think. The first playthrough is always the learning path, with the second one being the one where you fix your mistakes and get the ending you want. The third can be anevil playthrough with Dark Urge, which some will argue is more interesting.

While this thread was about messing up the game, another conversation sparked about thepettiest things players have done in Baldur’s Gate 3. As you’d imagine, most of this was targeted towards Wulbren.
