Baldur’s Gate 3is already a versatile experience - you have a lot of freedom in navigating the game’s various conflicts, and one playthrough can be a lot different to the next because of how many options you have. To a lesser extent, gameplay can vary depending on which class you pick and the classes you choose for your party. That said, if your party isn’t four warlocks to maximise the number of summonable imps then, objectively speaking, you are playing Baldur’s Gate 3 incorrectly.
As the title suggests, you can add even more versatility to Baldur’s Gate 3 through a combination of mods that allows you to play in first-person using WASD controls.Proxy Gate Tactician, a content creator, has published a video showing off these mods working in tandem. The whole thing works… surprisingly well. There are a couple of moments where the camera angle is a bit strange, but it does feel like you’re on the ground in the various environments of Baldur’s Gate 3 (thanks,GamesRadar+)
A Whole New Perspective
Is it the optimal way to play Baldur’s Gate 3? Probably not. The whole experience looks like it would give you motion sickness, and playing a tactical RPG from a first-person perspective doesn’t sound ideal. Maybe if someone perfects a real-time combat mod, there could be something here. What this setup is good for - is observing the fantastic level of detail that Larian has put into the game’s characters and locations, even though the camera was never supposed to get that close.
Speaking of Larian, everyone’s favourite armour-clad executive, Swen Vincke, weighed in on the video. “Now I want to play this - just look at it,” his social media post reads. Vincke may want to play it - but did he witness how terrifying it is to see Kar’niss the drider walk out from behind the camera? The Shadow-Cursed Lands are bad enough without having to deal with that.
