Summary

Baldur’s Gate 3has a blossoming modding scene at the moment, thanks to official tools that Larian Studios has given to modders, as well as just general support.Over one million mods were downloaded just 24 hoursafter mod support became available on PC, and we already have ambitious mods out there that do things likeremove turn-based combatand evenrecreate Elden Ring’s infamous Caelid area.

However, these mods have only been available to PC players, as Larian had to push back mod support on consoles to later in the year to ensure everything was hunky-dory. We know that platform holders can be picky when it comes to allowing mods on their consoles, especiallyPlayStation, but it seems as though any obstacles that may have been in the way have been removed.

Baldur’s Gate 3’s Latest Patch Has Brought Mods To Console

We knew thatmod support for consoles was coming in October, but Larian has announced that it’s now ready to go, as Patch 7 was rolled out to both PlayStation andXboxearlier today. This patch includes 69 (nice) fan-made mods that will be available to download on consoles, though Larian has pointed out that support will work a little differently on consoles and Mac than it does on PC.

Instead of having the modding toolkits like PC users, Larian has explained that console users won’t be able to make their own, and will have to choose from hand-picked community mods that pass internal testing. It explains that technical limitations are one of the main reasons behind this, but PC players are encouraged to tag their mods if they’re intended for console use so they can be sent for testing.

After being looked at and approved by Larian’s Community Team, those mods will then make the jump to console. Larian explains that this will be a “a continuously reviewed process”, and that mods will be added to consoles in batches, so you’ll need to check Baldur’s Gate 3’s in-game mod browser regularly to see when new mods are made available.

Larian has alsopublished a step-by-step tutorial on how to download and verify mods are working properly, as well as a list of mods that it recommends for players to try out, including various cosmetic changes, UI improvements, weightless gold, and mods to remove the level and party size caps. Definitely some fun stuff to mess around with right now, and support will only get better in the future.
