When it comes to superhero video games, most would agree that the Batman: Arkham series is the one to rule them all. However, the series ended with Arkham Knight, and fans have been begging for another installment. Unfortunately,we got a VR entryin the form ofBatman: Arkham Shadow.
Despite the disappointment of the game being on a platform that most people don’t have, the game seems to be getting some positive buzz. The latest we’ve learnt about the game is that Scarecrow will be played by none other than Elijah Wood, known for his role as Frodo in The Lord of the Rings trilogy.
You Are Full Of Surprises, Master Wood!
When you think of a character like Jonathan Crane a.k.a. Scarecrow, Elijah Wood isn’t the first actor that would come to mind. However, a quick glimpse at some behind the scenes footage shows Wood playing the character in mo-cap gear with an eerie aura. It seems his time with the One Ring has taught him how to be menacing.
Wood will be playing Crane as well as his alter-ego, Scarecrow, so it will be interesting to see the differences during the scenes. But, we know he already has experience with that, as we saw two sides of Frodo in the LOTR trilogy as well. The reveal of Wod playing Scarecrow has been met positively overall, with some even saying he’d be great for a live-action version of the character too.
Coincidentally, the last time we saw this Batman in this video game series, he had changed his tactics to incorporate Scarecrow’s fear toxin. The game’s story showed Bruce/Batman dying as Wayne Manor exploded, but in a post credit scene, some thugs were scared away by a demonic bat-like creature. This suggested that Bruce was alive and started using fear toxin to intimidate bad guys. Also, no one would believe that they saw a demon bat.
As for Arkham Shadow’s gameplay, it won’t be open-world like most of the games in the series, butwill follow in the suit of Batman: Arkham Asylum, according to Ryan Payton, founder of the developer, Camouflaj. “Above all, the structure of Arkham Shadow is inspired by the first game in the series: Arkham Asylum,” he said. “This means the game isn’t open world, but it affords a high degree of freedom for players to explore a courtyard-like area that connects the game’s dungeons.”
