Dead Rising Deluxe Remasteris as close as you can get to a faithful remaster, even if it is considerably easier than the original and has a completely different cast of voice actors. Even then, exploring the Willamette Parkview Mall has never felt or looked better, making it a must-play for veterans and newcomers alike.
Whether you’re a first-timer or have been through the grueling trenches of the original, there are many things you should probably keep in mind when starting your adventure for the first time, as some things just are never explained and can still lead to some confusion or missed opportunities.
Weapon Durability
Whether you like it or not,Weapon Durabilityis in Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster and willforce you to come into most encounters preparedas a result. In thetop right of your screen is your inventory, which willshow your weapons, with the bar beneaththem being theirDurability.
Theweapon will break once this bar is exhausted, forcing you to scavenge for something else.Weapons will almost always respawn wherever you picked them upfrom, allowing you to go back and re-obtain them, making it not all that bad, but there isa way to get more out of your weapons:Books!
Books,so long as they’re in your inventory, can give you sometremendous buffs, withincreasing Weapon Durability for specific weapon groupsbeing one of them. You can learn more about that in the table below!

The ‘Eight Survivor Rule’ And Its Importance
One of themost crucial aspectsof Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster is rescuing Survivors and bringing them back to the Security Room. However, what’s more importantthan that isunderstandingthe ‘Eight Survivor Rule’ and how itimpacts just about every aspect of the game—at least its side objectives and Scoops.
Simply put, there can only be eight active Survivors in the mallat any given time, no matter what. This essentially means thatsome Scoops will be temporarily unavailable until you rescue enough Survivors and free up roomin the mall for them to spawn in.It’s never explained and can really hinder your experience.
For example, the Psychopath Cliff Hudson’s Scoop becomes available on Day 2 at 8am.However,he has three Survivorshe’s holding hostage. If there are six Survivors still in the mall,Otis won’t call with the Scoop, and Cliff will not spawnuntil you free up that space. So it is fundamentally crucial that you save Survivors when exploring the mall.
Otis will call you with Scoops on stranded Survivors and Psychopaths, but not unless there is space for them to appear.Saving or even killing Survivors you come by in the mall will trigger these eventsas they become available. However, westrongly suggest you save instead of killing them,as they offer TONS of Prestige Points (EXP).
Obtain Powerful Items Early On
Paradise Plazais thestarting areaof the mall you will have access to after you get past the intro of the game, and there aremany items here that you should pick upif you want to make your life easier. Theseweapons and items will be useful from the start of your journey to the very end. They’re just that good.
We strongly recommendgrabbing theKatanaandSubmachine Gunin Paradise Plazaand theOrange Juicefor top-of-the-line healing. You can alsopick up two Booksthat willboost your Prestige Point accumulationby 25 percentwhen taking Photos and killing zombies. These Books areCamera 1andHorror Novel 2,respectively.
Do not underestimate the power of these items; they will bemore than capable of carrying you through pretty much every encounteryou can think of and will allow you to breeze through the mall as you save Survivors and give the Psychopaths their comeuppance!
Find The Balance Between Cases And Scoops
Casesare theMain Story Quests, whileScoopsare theSide Quests, such as saving specific Survivors or getting a tip on the whereabouts of a Psychopath. Theywon’t overlap too often, but you should be wary of a few thingsthat can trip you up if you aren’t paying attention.
As covered earlier in this guide,Psychopaths will appear on specific daysof the outbreak andat particular times, which isextremely helpful when figuring out when you should or should not advance the Main Story,as progressing too far can outright have you miss a Scoop and the chance to encounter a Psychopath or Survivor.
We have anextensive guide on all Psychopathsherethat we strongly recommend you check out if you want toplan ahead of time and defeat all of themin your first playthrough. Wealso include how many Survivors each Psychopath has held hostageso you can overcome that pesky Eight Survivor Rule!
Complete Challenges For Unique Rewards
Challengesare another vital aspect of Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster, as theyallow you to obtain unique itemssuch aspowerful weapons or clothing items. While youwon’t complete most of these Challenges during your first playthrough, they’re worth checking out as you will likely complete them on subsequent playthroughs or in the other modes.
Whether you’re in it for the long haul or just want to get in and get out, there’s likely something in the Challenge Catalog that will catch your interest, letting you gun for it as you sit back and enjoy slaying endless hoards of the undead!
Make Multiple Save Files
Perhaps the most important piece of information we can give you is toSave often and Save in Multiple Slots, especially whenever you reach a new day. Westrongly recommend having a Save at the start of each day,as you canreload it if something goes awry, such as missing a Scoop or failing to save some Survivors.
Even if it looks cluttered, just do it, please, asyou will regret it if you fumble the bag. This will also allow you tohone in on the times and see when to do specific encountersand when to hold off on them, making it one of the most crucial aspects of the game.
Youcan also Advance Timein the Deluxe Remaster, but we recommendonly using it whenever you are no longer receiving Scoops and you’re POSITIVE there are no more Survivors or Psychopathsremaining!
