Summary

Witchfireis a witch-hunting game where the hunter has figured out the best way to hunt witches is by using witch magic and big guns. This guy is a Preyer, and he is one name change away from fitting into the WWE Halloween lineup.

That being said, much of his physical prowess comes from stuff called ‘witchfire’ and it makes him immortal. This means that he can throw himself repeatedly at the witch’s forces as he breaks through. He may be well-equipped to handle many situations, but that’s only if you take into account every part of the situation.

7Always Be Aware Of Your Surroundings

You’re Always A Target

Now, the Preyer looks like a radical pilgrim from the ’90s, but his radical-ness does have restrictions. With such a big health bar, you’d think that he could take quite a beating, but you’d be wrong. If he’s caught in a bad spot, some peasant zombies with pointed sticks are enough to ruin his day. You only have so many potions and the healing isn’t instantaneous.

There are edible mushrooms where you look for some health recovery, but they’re a very specific sort and, again, not much healing. Keep your eyes on the mini-map for any enemy blips that appear and don’t stay out in the open since enemies will take any opportunity to shoot and rush you from off-screen. Enemies can be triggered before you even approach their location, so take advantage of narrow paths with tall borders to control where attacks come from and remove the opportunity to take hits from multiple directions.

6Conserve Stamina

Stop Over-Exerting

Another thing to keep in mind when trying not to play this game in the true run-and-gun style is stamina. Stamina is used to do every major action, fromsprinting to jumping to dashing, to using certain weapons. Whenever you do run out of stamina in the middle of a battle, you may as well reset.

Stamina takes a while to recover and remember that taking damage will also reduce it. You want to keep a healthy pool so that you can remain on the offense and still have enough left to retreat if things get a bit too hairy. You can quickly improve your stamina by earning a kill streak without taking damage, which will be indicated by the stamina bar getting longer and turning yellow. Approach a group of weak enemies like Woodsmen and clear them out to get the boost early on and with little risk to yourself.

5Improve Weapons With Quick Runs

Don’t Keep Them Terrible

The Preyer is a trained witch-hunter that has mastered magic to an effective degree, but even he is limited to only three weapons. Your attack loadout consists of two regular, one demonic weapon, and two rings for casting spells. At the start, you may think the weapons you have are trash and that’s because they are.

The flavor text offers some insight into their true power, but that can only be brought out if you put the work in. Killing enemies and collecting Mysterium papers is the only way to improve them and really make them good at doing what you expect them to do. For instance, the Hangfire starts as a slow-firing revolver that does good damage, but its first power turns bullets into explosives that can be planted anywhere and detonated on reload. Get into the habit ofdoing short runssolely to complete upgrade requirements where you’re simply jumping in to take out as many enemies as possible since your weapon’s kills are saved whether you make it out alive or not.

4Reset On Death, Not Exit

Use Immortality To Your Advantage

The world of Witchfire operates on roguelite rules that the Witch can bend to her will. Every area has been arranged to hold its defenses and armies in different positions. Your map helps identify the dangerous areas, but you won’t actually know what you’ll encounter every time you go there.

However, the roguelite shifting only happens when the Preyer is killed and sent back to shifting. It only affects theenemy, event, and object placement, the map will remain the same. If you’re hoping for a better arrangement for grinding, you may also snuff out the Preyer until the map looks more appealing. Just remember, the more you grind, the tougher things will get.

3Gather Your Keys

Unlock More Options

Whenever you die in Witchfire, you drop most of the consumable items that you’re carrying. This wouldn’t be the biggest issue, but one of them is quite valuable: keys. All over the maps are locked chests that hold very useful items like Mysterium papers, potion refills, and very valuable gold.

To get keys, you have to get lucky in your drops when you kill enemies, or you can visit the Merchant to buy some. If you’re looking to step up your research and unlock new, potentially more powerful gear, then you’re going to need lots ofgold andtreasure. Therefore, you’ll need lots of keys.

2Don’t Panic At Each Mistake

Just Stop Moving

The most dangerous thing you have to deal with while fighting in the field is the Witch’s Curse. The eyes in the corner mark her awareness of your lack of skill, meaning that every time you make a mistake, the counter goes up. When it fills up, a Calamity is unleashed, summoning hordes of enemies to hunt you down andpunish your playing.

You can avoid this by not making mistakes and there are a LOT of mistakes. Stepping on a trap, shooting an empty clip, using a spell in cooldown, getting hit when you have no stamina, eating a bad mushroom, and getting ambushed are just some of the common mistakes you can make. Since they can happen back-to-back, your best defense is to limit your exposure: stay away from areas marked with traps and hug the walls so that you reduce ambush opportunities. If enemies start to overwhelm you, it’s safer to flee and take a moment to recover, rather than unleashing everything you have in a frenzy and leading to more mistakes.

1Save Bullets, Restock Cautiously

Every Shot Must Count

There are multiple sources of ammo on the map, but there’s only so much you grab. As the enemies get tougher, and you take more risks, enemies become better at absorbing bullets with their bodies and faces. You need to plan out how you’re going to spend your ammo, especially since some weapons have vastly lower magazines than others.

Ammo can be found in chests or dropped by enemies, but these are rarely in safe places, so even trying to refill ammo can put you at risk and lead to a run that ends too soon. This is particularly important is planning ontaking on the bossor completing multiple events. The safest way to get ammo is from splintered groups of roaming enemies that aren’t part of the ‘Dangerous’ areas since they’re easier to pick off. You can also go to the Merchant and buy packs of Standard or Demonic Ammo with gold or witchfire that you can consume for instant refills during your run.
