Zombies are crawling all over Willamette Parkview Mall and inDead Rising Deluxe Remaster, Frank West has 72 hours to find out the truth behind the outbreak. Before you take a dive from the helicopter and onto the mall rooftops, there are a few things you might want to know about this new experience.
If you’re a Dead Rising veteran, you will find that a few habits you developed while playing the original game no longer work the way you remember. Meanwhile, some mechanics might slip under the radar but can be really helpful for new players. So here’s what we wish we knew before starting Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster.
Similar But Not Exactly The Same
Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster does not change much in terms of mall layout or even story. While one boss is redesigned and two feature slightly different dialogue, every single line and animation seems taken directly from the original game.
If you’re looking for secret cutscenes or additions to the story, there is only one boss that you’re able to now spare and receive fresh new dialogue. However, Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster adds plenty of quality-of-life updates, challenges, and unlockables that make the gameplay feel fresh and worth experimenting with.
9Do The Mini Chainsaws Still Make Boss Fights Easy?
The Death Of A Speedrunning Strategy
The Mini Chainsaws in Dead Rising used to be some of the most powerful weapons in the game. In the original game, they could kill a Psychopath in only a few hits, making them the prime weapon for speed runners.
This has changed in Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster. While the Mini Chainsaws still do a significant amount of damage, they won’t end the boss battle in three or fewer hits any more. So if you’re planning to cut the time spent on bosses using these chainsaws, think again.
8Are There Any New Survivors?
Before You Look For Survivors
There are over 50 different survivors in Dead Rising. Their missions are all tightly-knit in order so that when they do overlap, they don’t become cumbersome. Some survivors are tied to scoops, while others must be found by scouting the mall each day.
So have there been any new survivors added to the roster of preexisting characters? No, but there is one character that survives this time around. Thomas Hall can be spared if you kill the rest of his gun-happy family first. However, he will not join you in the security room, preferring to fend for himself.
7Can You Go Outside The Mall?
Exploring Willamette Beyond The Mall
One thing players always wanted to do was explore the streets of Willamette. This wasone of the major selling points of Dead Rising 4. However, does Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster feature a way for you to escape the mall?
Unfortunately, the answer is still no.
However, the mall’s Leisure Park has been completely overhauled to feature ambient fog, swampy ponds, and more foliage. It almost feels like you’ve left the mall entirely. Also, you can still shoot zombies in the parking lot from the rooftops using long-ranged weapons.
6Can You Still Unlock Content?
Not All Extra Content Is Paid DLC
There may be plenty of DLC costumes that you can get by buying the digital deluxe edition of the game, but that does not mean that there isn’t content that can be unlocked just by playing.
This includes the classic laser sword as well as a brand-new book that gives your weapon infinite durability. You will, however, need to save every survivor first. Certain achievements will also unlock costumes that will later appear in the security room. you’re able to keep track of your progress as well as your rewards using the new challenges section of your notebook.
5Is There A Way To Speed Up The Clock?
No More Waiting Around
One feature that you may not realize you’re able to do when you first boot up the game is that speeding up time is now an option. This means that you can head into any safe area such as a bathroom and make time go faster.
You will also be delighted to know that you can also do this while playing Infinity Mode. Sogetting the seven-day survivor achievementwon’t force you to sit through 14 hours straight. Bet you wished you had known that before getting the achievement the old-school way.
4How Good Is The Survivor AI?
Bumbling Or Competent?
So one question that is on everyone’s mind is about the survivor AI. How good are they? It’s always best to know before you decide torun through a zombie swarm.
Well, survivors will still get stuck every now and then, after all, these are still just civilians, but it is far less noticeable than in the original game. However, they each have their own favorite items that will heal them more or make for more effective weapons to give them. There is even a ramp near the entrance of the rooftop vent, making it less likely that they all get stuck trying to climb it.
3Are Combo Weapons Secretly In The Game?
No, combo weapons are not in Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster. Like the original game, this one stays true to the original premise of the franchise, which means you will mostly be fighting with items you find around the mall.
However, the game still offers you ways to combine items. You can use foods to make juices with powerful effects. Later, you can even find a book that lets you mix two weapons in a blender instead of two food items.
2Is Infinity Mode Still As Brutal As Ever?
Infinity Mode Is Easier Yet Just As Hard
The seven-day survivor achievement is considered one of the hardest challenges to unlock in the game. While speeding up time and saving are now options for this mode, that does not mean there isn’t a challenge.
You still need all your skills to locate survivors and Psychopaths if you want to loot their bodies. Food is still finite, meaning you need to make the most of what you have. Speeding up time may make the wait easier, however, doing so can still cause you to miss survivors that carry vital items you need when your health is ticking down.
1How Different Is Hand-To-Hand Combat?
Modern And Classic Controls
In the original Dead Rising, barehanded combat usually means pressing a series of button combinations or timing the presses with your jumps. This would enable you to perform moves such as the roundhouse kick or disemboweling a zombie.
This is slightly different in Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster as the moves have all been streamlined for easier use. You will also find that getting grabbed by a zombie no longer prompts you to wiggle your joystick, but press a button or key. You can toggle between classic or modern controls from your settings.
