Summary

Picking betweenDragon Age: The Veilguard’s three classes is the first key choice you need to make in the game. Choosing between Rogue, Warrior, or Mage depends on your playstyle, but you’ll soon need to pick skills that compliment your character and how you’re approaching combat.

Of course, some of the choices should come down to what works best for how you play. Are you a Warrior focused on Stagger, Necrosis, heavy attacks, or range? While there are some skills that fit into each of those styles, there are some that every Warrior should pick, no matter how you play.

Where To Find

Shield Volley

Volley your Shield Toss attack back at an enemy three times when it returns to you.

Area and Control ability that deals Overwhelm and high Stagger.

Ignition skill in the skill tree in Dragon Age: The Veilguard.

20 percent higher Stagger from weapons

One skill after Fury of the Forge

The Fiery Resolve skill in the skill tree in Dragon Age: The Veilguard.

The Inner Ring in the Warrior skill tree is strong. Shield Volley improves your ranged attack by allowing you to hit it back at enemies once it returns, removing the delay between throws. Counterblow and Focused Retaliation both give you bonuses upon pulling off a perfect defense.

Titan Stomp is also one of the best ability options for Warriors, especially if you are building a Stagger-focused character. By dealing Overwhelm and high Stagger, you can take enemies out quickly with Takedowns. The ability also combines excellently with skills you unlock later on. The Velocity skill is also excellent if you’re building a Stagger focus.

10 percent additional Affliction damage.

If you’re building towards the Reaper Specialisation, there are some great skills to unlock. Ricochet Shot and Staggering Toss both improve Shield Toss, adding more damage and increasing the Stagger you deal.

Dragon Age_ The Veilguard Takedown on Wraith

Any skills that give you flaming weapons are great, so Ignition helps you get them when facing an enemy with weakpoints. Then, on top of those, Enervation and Desolate Malady both increase the damage you deal in certain situations.

Falter

Using Control attacks against enemies with High Health deal 100 percent extra Stagger.

Above Breathing Room

As for Champion builds, the high quality skills are a little more limited. Fiery Resolve is another skill that grants Flaming Weapons, which is always useful, and Reinforcement increases the damage dealt by Active Advantages by ten percent, meaning the two skills go hand in hand.

Traumatize is another skill that’s excellent if you’re building a Stagger focused character, as it makes the Takedowns you do after filling the Stagger bar more powerful.

Finally, Breathing Room and Falter both improve abilities you’ll have equipped. The former makes the Area abilities cover a wider area, hitting more enemies at once, while the latter is another great skill for Stagger builds as it doubles the Stagger dealt by Control attacks.

Overhand Smash

Smash abilities now deal 50 percent additional damage against Armor and 50 percent more Stagger.

10 percent additional Physical resistance.

Right of Whirlwind

Finally, Slayers also have a lot of great skill options. One of the best skills for any Warrior is the Guardian’s Reprive skill as it heals you whenever you perform a Takedown. If you’ve focused on Stagger abilities, it’ll mean you’re healing regularly when taking on large groups of enemies as you’ll be taking them down all the time. Combine that with Flames of Victory and you’ll be healed and granted Flaming Weapons every time you perform a Takedown.

Shellbreaker may not be that useful early on in The Veilguard’s story, as you won’t face that many enemies with armour, but it’ll be excellent to have as you progress. Bulwark will also help you in tougher fights as it improves your resistance to standard, non-magic attacks.
