Summary

We have seen plenty of zombie games over the years, but not many of them have been as fun and as gory asDead Rising, which has also become a much better game now with the launch of itsDeluxe Remaster.

Some of the other things that make Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster stand out are it’s time-sensitive system, which we don’t really see in too many games, and its environment, which is densely packed but is focused around a relatively small area. This list will include some titles that either share some of these cool systems or are just good-old fun zombie-killing games like Dead Rising.

Similarly to Dead Rising, Project Zomboid is also anopen-world zombie gamethat tests your survival skills to their limit. With a very in-depth resource gathering and crafting system, this game requires you to deal with stuff like illness, hunger, insanity and much more, as well as dealing with hordes of zombies.

This game doesn’t have a proper story, and its graphics are quite different from Dead Rising, but if you want to have a realistic experience of what an actual zombie apocalypse could be like, then this is probably one of the best games out there.

Dying Light 2: Survivors Fending Of An Attack From The Infected.

Dying Light 2 is a great choice for players who want an open-world zombie apocalypse setting, similar to Dead Rising, but with a much bigger world and a darker theme. This game also has a lotmore variety of zombies or Infectedthan Dead Rising, with a lot of terrifying variants such as Volatiles and Goons.

But the best feature of Dying Light 2 is undoubtedly it’s incredibly smooth parkour system, which lets you climb buildings, wall-run, jump across roofs and so much more to escape from zombies or to get the jump on them.

Both Resident Evil and Dead Rising are Capcom gamesbased around zombies, but the former has always been the more popular title for some reason. Resident Evil 2 is the modern remake of the original game, similarly to how Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster is the remake of its original iconic game.

These games also use the same RE Engine and have some similar graphical elements, although the zombies in both games are very different, and Resident Evil is much more of a horror-zombie game, while Dead Rising mixes elements of seriousness with a lot of lighthearted moments.

Hitman may not be a zombie game, but there are actually quite a few similarities that it shares with Dead Rising in terms of certain unique features. One of the best examples of this is the missions, which can be completed in a variety of ways and as many times as you want.

There is also the time-sensitive element where you might miss out on certain elements if you are not present for them, and the game will move on without giving you another chance at them unless you replay the whole mission or game. This factor gives both these games a high amount of replayability value, and you can play them over and over again with there always being new things to do,

State of Decay may be a way harder game than Dead Rising, but that doesn’t mean that they don’t share a few similarities. Rescuing survivors is a big part of both games and zombie slaying is, of course, something that both of them are based on.

Similarly to Project Zomboid, State of Decay is a very accurate portrayal of what a realistic zombie apocalypse would be like, and you’re able to’t just fight your way out of hordes of zombies like you would in Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster, which brings a different challenge that fans of Dead Rising may end up enjoying.

If you enjoy the pure zombie killing aspect of Dead Rising, then you are bound to like Back 4 Blood, which is a first-person shooter game with a co-op storyline, based on fighting the Ridden, a form of zombie-like creatures that have taken over the world.

Similarly toDead Rising, guns and different forms of weaponsplay a huge role in Back 4 Blood, and blasting through zombies brings an immense amount of satisfaction as well. One of the best parts of Back 4 Blood is its graphics, which makes the terrifying zombies look even more terrifying.

Zombie Army 4: Dead War takes the typical zombie apocalypse storyline into the past, with its story consisting of fighting a nazi army that has returned from the dead in the form of zombies. This army consists of a bunch of different types of zombies, from Zombie Elites, that come equipped with weapons like miniguns and flamethrowers, to Hitler himself, who is the mastermind behind the apocalypse.

The many different settings and environments throughout the game’s different levels are what make it even better, and getting to use old-school weapons and rifles to blast nazi zombies is as fun as it sounds.

Player Grabbing a Zombie By The Neck in Dead Island 2.

Dead Island 2 is probably one of the few games that comes close to Dead Rising in terms of having a serious yet comedic theme and for the variety of creative weapons it comes with, from brass knuckles to baseball bats to many others.

Although this game isn’t strictly open world, it does share a similar vibe to Dead Rising in terms of its small island setting which is packed with stuff to find, similarly to the mall in Dead Rising. Dead Island 2 is also great to play due to how funny the humor is at times, and especially due to how much it emphasizes on its gore aspects.

Dead Rising 3 has often been criticized for taking a completely different direction from the first two games, and while its protagonist Nick might not share the same amount of charisma as Frank West, the whole game does have a lot of redeemable features, such as its even bigger variety of zombies and weapons, improved combat, and a much better and bigger open world.

It also has a much-improved crafting system, as well as a better character upgrade system that is similar to modern-day games. We would recommend you to try out Dead Rising 3 even though it might not match the high standards of Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster, as it is still a good game in itself.

A small group of Infected zombies in a graveyard approaching the camera in Left 4 Dead 2.

It might be a controversial opinion, but we still don’t believe any game does co-op zombie slaying as well as Left 4 Dead 2, and this is the perfect game to check out if you want even more bloody and gorey zombie fights where you’re able to kill zombies in a bunch of different and fun ways.

The fact that Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster isn’t co-op is probably the only ‘bad’ part about the entire game, as Left 4 Dead 2 proves exactly how zombie slaying is just that more fun with friends.
