At its core,Metaphor: ReFantaziois about the characters you meet and the bonds you create with them. But to max out all of the bonds with your various followers, you’ll need to mold the protagonist into a leader they can wholeheartedly support, and for that, you’ll need to work on his royal virtues.
There are five of these personality traits that you may level up throughout the game, and while they are all important, there are some that require more active effort than others. To max out all of the bonds, you’ll need to max out each of these traits, but to have the smoothest journey possible; which are the best royal virtues to increase first in Metaphor: ReFantazio?
5Courage
Put On A Brave Face
Throughout the story of Metaphor: ReFantazio, your protagonist will need to display his courage in a variety of different ways, but to show this bravery within the bond storylines, you’ll need to work on upgrading his courage stat.
While this social stat is needed to upgrade bonds more frequently in the mid/late-game, you won’t need to give this bond as much active attention, since you’ll be given the most opportunities to work on this royal virtue during other tasks.
For example, it’s recommended to complete every bounty available to grind experience and keep your wallet full, but for each of these, you’ll also get some bonus courage points. As well as this, if you have free time before a deadline, then it’s recommended to try and work through the coliseum in Brilehaven, and on top of the unique rewards and experience you get from this, you’ll also get courage as well.
You’ll also get plenty of opportunities to raise your courage on the Gauntlet Runner, since Strohl, one of the first party membersyou get, frequently offers the chance to raise your courage with him while traveling. Thanks to how many chances you get to upgrade this stat during other activities, you’ll not need to give this stat as much active attention.
4Wisdom
Knowledge Of Your Kingdom
Thanks to just how long the adventure of Metaphor: ReFantazio is, you’ll end up learning plenty about the country of Euchronia and its people, but you’ll need to spend plenty of time teaching the protagonist these lessons by raising his wisdom stat.
Similar to courage, you’ll be able to gain wisdom by doing tasks you would otherwise be doing anyway. For example, when traveling on the Gauntlet Runner, you’ll occasionally take a break to take in the scenery and have a chat with your party members. Every time this happens, you’ll unlock a postcard from Neuras that you can give to Maria, but you’ll also get a healthy wisdom point stipend as well.
On top of this,Hulkenberg is going to be in your Gauntlet Runneras soon as you unlock this mode of transport, and she is often free to offer strategy lessons to give you more wisdom throughout the adventure as well.
You should be able to accrue the perfect amount of wisdom throughout the mid/late game by just engaging with most of the features offered to you, but you might need to grind it a little more actively at the beginning, since a couple of the earlier bonds require a low level of wisdom to progress. However, these don’t time out quickly, so there isn’t a massive rush either.
3Tolerance
Learn To Love Your People
Compared to courage and wisdom, the other three royal virtues are much less frequently doled out during standard activities, and because of this, they are the three that you are much more likely to need to actively grind throughout the story.
Thanks to the focus on the diversity of the tribes in Metaphor: ReFantazio, tolerance is one of the most important stats to work on lore-wise, and gameplay-wise, it will be tested consistently throughout the bond storylines, but particularly near the beginning and end of the game.
Luckily, since Heismay will join your party relatively earlyin the adventure, you’ll have plenty of chances to upgrade your tolerance virtue by spending time with him on the Gauntlet Runner, and these interactions come with the bonus of occasional fights with elementas, which are a perfect way to unlock more MAG as well.
2Imagination
Envision A Brighter Future
One of the more unique royal virtues you’re able to work on throughout Metaphor: ReFantazio is imagination, and while you are less likely to be awarded this during normal quests and activities, there are plenty of NPCs that will offer different interactions that can raise this stat.
Your imagination is also tested regularly throughout the bond storylines, so you’ll want to keep an eye on its progression throughout the campaign. You won’t have any dedicated party members for raising this stat on the Gauntlet Runner until the mid/late-game, but your party members will often offer interactions during the nighttime while traveling that raise your imagination.
1Eloquence
Silver Tongue
Arguably, the trait that will require the most active effort to raise is eloquence, which tests the protagonist’s ability to speak and persuade the citizens of Euchronia. There are very few passive methods of raising this stat, and it’s one of the rarest stats to raise while traveling on the Gauntlet Runner, with books being the only method for most of the game.
Eloquence becomes more important during the mid-game, so by this point, you’ll want to have your eloquence stat raised to at least level 3. The best way to upgrade your eloquence is to engage in debates with other candidates for the crown, but make sure you’re being careful with your dialogue options, since the better you perform in the debate, the more eloquence you’ll unlock. If you’re talented in the debates, then leveling up your eloquence is less of a challenge, but if you’re more foolhardy with your dialogue choices, then this will be the most challenging virtue to work on.
