While there are no discreet classes to choose from in Greedfall 2: The Dying World, the way the stat and skill system work does funnel you into one of a few distinct playstyles. From the very beginning of the game, your main character will have talents in a very specific area of combat.
The levelling system is very adaptable, allowing you to create the perfect warrior of your own design, but some choices will lead to a smoother time than others. To this end, we will present you with our pick for the best stat and skill choices for a smooth time with the game.
Greedfall 2 is currently in Early Access. As a result, the details below may change significantly over time.
Best Character Profile
Upon creating your character and finalising their appearance, you’ll be prompted to pick a character profile. you’re able to think of these as character classes in a fashion, but they don’t limit you as much as traditional class systems do.
In addition to total free creation, the following character profiles are available to choose from:
Protector
The tank
This profile is your basic tanking built - a provoke, a tank stance, and some skill with melee weapons.
Our verdict: This is a solid pick for those who want to play the tank, which is a gratifying playstyle in this game.
Hunter
The archer
This is a ranged profile that, with its starting loadout, focuses more on being a supportive attacker rather than a raw damage dealer.
Our verdict: This profile has a solid basis, but isn’t so useful in the early hours. It’s a better idea to start with something more solid and adapt into a support character from there.
Doneigad
The green mage
This is basically the Hunter, but with magic attacks instead of a bow.
Wild Fighter
The berserker
This is an offence-based profile that starts you off with an axe. The stance here trades a bit of defence for better offence, and it starts with an AoE attack.
Our verdict: At this point in time, melee builds have the most interactivity and satisfaction in combat, and this is one of the best ways to get into that playstyle.
Elite Shooter
The sniper
This is the more offensive version of the Hunter, trading the support ability for a self-buff to damage.
Our verdict: Ranged combat can feel a little unresponsive, but if you like the idea of staying out of the way and destroying enemies from afar, this is the one for you.
Spell Caster
The black mage
Naturally, this is the more offensive version of the Doneigad. While this profile trades survival abilities for raw offence, there is a bonus with the Breath of Life spell.
Our verdict: Of the spellcaster classes, this is probably the most solid base profile.
Guide
The herbalist
This is the melee support profile. First Aid is a useful ability for pretty much any character, and comes with Good Samaritan’s Stance, which should be active on at least one ally at all times on higher difficulties.
Our verdict: Melee support is as niche as it gets. Do not recommend.
Scout
The support
A ranged combatant with support abilities (and only one skill point away from healing with First Aid) make this an archetypical support character that doesn’t require much else to be effective.
Our verdict:If you’re set on being a support character, this is the one to go for.
Healer
The white mage
This is a healing mage, there’s not much else to say about this class. We all know what a magical healer can do.
Our verdict:Support magic and healing go together well, but this character will likely be suitably fragile. We’d recommend going for Scout instead.
Outside these character profiles, which neatly provide melee, ranged, and magical options for offensive support, damage dealing, and defensive support, there aren’t really any niches to fill. This is why we would not recommend choosing the Free Creation option when creating a character.
Instead, our recommendations are thus:
These profiles (along with their respective stat point builds) are already perfect as starting options thanks to how easy it is to develop your build as you go through the game. The choice boils down to your particular playstyle wants and needs.
