Summary
Shadow of the Ninja - Reborn is a remake of the classic Shadow of the Ninja, also known as Kage on the NES. To fight the darkness as either Hayate or Kaede, you’ll need to be familiar with the weapons and tools of the shinobi. From your short-range katana that can increase in power to the Kusarigama’s long reach, you will have a lot of tools in the battle.
Similar to manyninja side-scrolling games like Ninja Gaiden and Shinobi,Shadow of the Ninja Reborn brings multiple types of weapons and tools to aid you in the battle against darkness. These additional weapons are called Gears, which are found throughout the levels by destroying boxes you come across.
10Makibishi
Setting Up Floor Spikes
For any skilled ninja, the Makibishi spikes provide a quick and effective retreat. In Shadow of the Ninja, Hayate and Kaede can throw them at the ground. Any enemies charging at you will suffer damage from these spike traps enough that you may finish them off or maneuver around them.
Compared to other ranged gears you may get, these are great for leading traps and managing damage while preparing the next set of attacks.
9Odachi
Using a Formidable Long Katana
The Odachi is used as a faster, slightly less damaging version of the spiked club (kanebo). It also has a longer range than your normal katana. The Odachi is basically a limited version of the katana with some range and more default damage.
In a pinch, the odachi is great at keeping enemies at a distance, acting as a longer katana with limited use. At ten swings before discarding, this is a great weapon to keep until you come across the boss or a particularly tough enemy.
8Serrated Cleaver
A Brutally Savage Blade
This is a great sword similar to the Odachi and the great sword but with a stronger edge. This sword is swung in the same fashion and does more damage than the other weapons of a similar type. It is part of the heavy weapons type and can shred enemy units with its unique blade.
The Serrated Cleaver can be used ten times upon retrieval and is best used against large, slow enemies, stationary machines, and boss battles when they’re given an opening.
7Oni-Kanebo
A Formidable Bludgeoning Weapon
A large, spiked club weapon often used by Oni in folklore, the Kanebo can smash down any unlucky enemies in its path. Its only drawback is the slower drawback compared to other close-range weapons. The best enemies to use this weapon against are large, slow, stationary targets.
Kanebo is one of the better close-range weapons to use on bosses during brief openings and are perfect for chipping away at their health.
6Kunai
Throwing Classic Ninja Weapons
The kunai is a straightforward throwing weapon that can extend in range and packs better damage compared to shuriken. Against enemies that are too far even for your kusarigama, this weapon is great for either taking them out instantly or doing enough damage to finish them off closer.
You can throw up to ten kunai once you pick them up, and they are vital to use alongside shuriken if you want to keep a distance from tough enemies and bosses.
5Shotgun
Bringing a Gun To a Sword Fight
The good old boom stick. Shotguns in Shadow of the Ninja work the way they do in other video games like Devil May Cry and Resident Evil, where the shells can spread a devastating load of damage to enemies in front of Hayate or Kaede.
You can use the shotgun teen times, making it one of those weapons you’d need to use sparingly for enemies you know you can hit.
4Gatling Gun
Shredding Foes WIth A Storm Of Bullets
Th Gatling Gun is one of the most powerful ranged weapons you can find, but it’s also super slow to set up, so it’s not reliable against fast targets. It’s devastating once used against foes, but the need to keep a good distance to use it, combined with keeping enemies where you want them, makes this gear a bit unwieldy.
Enemies that are susceptible to the power of the Gatling Gun include several stationary machines, big bosses, and a group of faraway enemies that recklessly charge at you while you’re at a safe distance to blast them.
3Bomb
Explosive Warfare
Shinobi bombs are some of the best thrown weapons you can have. They are important for taking on large enemies and taking on bosses. The bomb is thrown in a wide arc, so using them requires a certain level of predicting how far you need to be to ensure the attack hits.
You have five usages to spare, so while these are great items to use, it’s best to save them for the inevitably tough boss encounters at the end of several level sections.
2Katana
Slashing Through Your Foes
This is your all-around most used and efficient weapon at close range. Hayate and Kaede swing their katanas in the same upward swing that will hit anything in front of them. Initially, the katana is relatively short ranged and does a fairly moderate amount of damage until you upgrade its effectiveness.
Once you pick up the upgrade sphere, the katana can reach a second and third level of power that increases its attack power. It also adds the sword’s ability to shoot off a slicing wave, giving the weapon significant range. As long as you don’t get hit a lot in the level, these upgrades stick around and are very effective.
1Kusarigama
Fighting From A Chain’s Distance
The kusarigama, which translates to the chain sickle, is your default long-range weapon that you start with alongside the katana. This weapon is the best to use when taking out enemies from a distance. If you want to save on gear and don’t want to risk damage at close range.
Like the katana, the Kusarigama can be upgraded into two other forms that do more damage than the base version. Like the Katana, the Kusarigama maintains its upgraded strength as long as you don’t get injured too much in battle.
