Summary

Disney Epic Mickey: Rebrushedbrings back one of the greatest titles on the Nintendo Wii. Travel to a world that seems familiar but not quite the same as you remember it. This world is called the Wasteland, and it houses many of Disney’s scrapped concepts, including a certain lucky rabbit named Oswald.

While the original Epic Mickey was a classic, the freshly dubbed Rebrushed edition makes multiple changes that give the title a fresh update. There are also plenty of quality-of-life changes to make it more streamlined for players. From control scheme changes to special features, here are the biggest differences from the original.

8New Updated Graphics

Looking Good Mickey Mouse

One of the most obvious differences between the original Epic Mickey and the Rebrushed version is thatthe graphics look significantly better in the remastered version. This means the details on each level look sharper and have been touched up. This includes giving Mickey a slightly different model with better expressions and better lighting than the original.

Cutscenes also get a fresh coat of paint. While the Rebrushed version enhances many of the visuals that were already in the game, there are also added details and structures that make the worlds feel more filled. This can mean doors where there only used to be a blank wall or changing flat concrete for wooden planks.

7The Wii Mote Is Gone

Is This Goodbye To Motion Controls?

Another huge difference between the Rebrushed edition on modern platforms and theoriginal Wii titleis the absence of the Wii Mote and anything that referred to it. This is because the game has been rebuilt to fit with modern controls. However, does this mean that motion controls are completely missing?

A few motion control settings can still be found for Rebrushed. These control schemes are only available for systems that have compatible controllers. So, while the Xbox doesn’t have this option, the PS5 and the Nintendo Switch have the capability to bring a bit more motion to the title. This may make the feeling feel just a bit more nostalgic, even if it’s not the same.

6Photo Mode

Capture Those Magic Disney Moments

Games with photo modes are always welcome. Rebrushed addsa brand-new photo modethat wasn’t available in the original Wii entry. This allows you to take clean snapshots of your gameplay in whatever pose, location, and instant that you want.

Photo mode may not be a vital part of the gameplay of Rebrushed, but simply having one adds so much value to what you can do. Experimenting with this mode lets you collect excellent screencaps that can be used for anything, including thumbnails, collages, or as a way to demonstrate certain details in the game that you want to primarily focus on.

Epic Mickey Rebrushed Concept Art.

Giving Credit To The Artists

The art of Epic Mickey is some of thecreepiest concept art you will ever see. In fact, many of the early designs for the original game could have tilted Disney Epic Mickey into a more horrific genre. While The Art of Epic Mickey is a rare book, you can still find 50 panels within the Extra Contents menu.

In Rebrushed, this concept art can still be unlocked within the game, but this time around there is just a bit more to look at. You can find an additional 104 pieces of extra content in the remastered version of the game. This will leave your hands full with a total of 154 pieces of art to admire.

4A Change To Death Rules

Respawning Made Easier

Sell all your Disney stocks because Mickey is about to die. This is something that will definitely happen a few times while you play the game. Don’t worry, it happens to everyone. However, the rules are slightly different. One benefit from the remastered version of the game is that the loading screen that occurs between death and respawning is gone.

On the other hand, dying now makes Mickey drop seven E-Tickets. This is something that didn’t happen in the original game. You will also find that getting crushed to death is much harder than the original, with instant deaths replaced by standard damage and a quick respawn away from danger.

3New Abilities For Mickey

Some New Moves For Mickey

It wouldn’t be a remake of Epic Mickey without making Mickey just a bit more epic. That’s right, Rebrushed doesn’t just give Mickey a few new expressions during cutscenes, but also gives him a few new abilities to play around with.

These new abilities include being able to perform a quick dash, ground pounding, and sprinting. In addition to this, the spinning move can now be combined with paint or thinner. For all you speedrunners out there, the spin move also gives you an extra bit of height when used in midair. While this might seem inconsequential, you may use this to get over unexpected obstacles.

2Disney Epic Mickey 2 Costumes Return

Get In Costume

One notable feature that made it into Disney Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two but was absent from the original is the inclusion of costumes. These costumes offered a few gameplay buffs in the original sequel and could be applied to change Mickey or Oswald’s appearance.

Rebrushed brings back this feature and most of the costumes that could be unlocked in the second game. However, there are a few notable differences. These costumes are mostly just aesthetic and don’t offer any buffs. The Sorcerer’s Apprentice costume for Mickey is also absent from the game. Regardless, it’s a neat little feature to customize your Mickey.

1Brand New Animations And Interactions

All The Little Things That Produce Magic

Disney Epic Mickey: Rebrushed does a lot to make the gameplay and graphics look as fluid and sharp as possible. However, it also does a lot for the little details that you might not notice right away. For example, all the goat NPCs have been replaced with cows, characters now have greeting animations whenever Mickey walks by, and some enemies even have new variants.

All these little changes seem insignificant when looked at individually, but together, they help the experience feel fresh with something new around every corner. Rebrushed goes above and beyond with the changes without losing the feel of what made the original so special.
