Summary

Dead Rising Deluxe Remasteris here. While it leaves the story and its characters almost entirely untouched, there are some major changes that not only make the game more fun to play, but finally address problems that the original game had. So, while the game may look very familiar to those coming back, it also feels like an entirely new game.

Some of these changes will feel like a breath of fresh air while others make items that you never thought of using suddenly more approachable. Here are the biggest differences between the original Dead Rising and the Deluxe Remaster.

10The Overhauled Graphics

The Mall Gets Remodeled

The most prominent change that you will notice right away is the updated graphics. Dead Rising looks fantastic on the RE Engine. Areas in the mall such as Paradise Plaza have a familiar layout but have been revamped to look new. Meanwhile, the park area looksperfectly atmosphericat night with fog and murk.

Facial expressions are also updated, allowing some characters to have an additional layer to their personalities. In addition to this, zombies look even more gruesome than ever before with gore effects that rival the original.

9Survivors Are Easier To Save

The Survivors Have Survival Instincts

One of the biggest gameplay changes is the overhaul of the survivor AI. The original game has bumbling survivors who get stuck in every corner and snagged by zombies left and right. This made it frustrating to corral every survivor to the security room.

The ultimate challenge, though, has always been getting them over the ledge and into the rooftop vents. So, not only are the survivors in this game more capable of handling themselves, but they finally have steps they can walk on instead of getting stuck trampling each other.

8It Has Full Voice Acting

Otis Finally Speaks

One thing you might notice once you look for your first scoop is that the game now features full voice acting. This means that every survivor will now speak instead of requiring you to read every piece of text from their dialogue.

This is a nice little feature that doesn’t necessarily enhance the gameplay but helps you immerse yourself in the world of Dead Rising. It’s nice to hear every survivor talk, but it’s even nicer to finally give Otis a voice actor considering he has the most dialogue in the game.

7Hands-Free Calling

No More Getting Interrupted By Zombies

Speaking of Otis, there is one issue every player has run into while playing the original Dead Rising. This is that Otis’ calls will come at the most inconvenient times. You don’t want to miss these scoops so you answer, only for zombies to stop you mid-call.

Zombies can no longer interrupt your calls with Otis. This means you no longer have to listen to Otis calling you rude for hanging up on him before he starts the message again from the very beginning.

6Psychopath Changes

An Upgrade Or A Downgrade?

While most Psychopaths remain completely untouched in terms of dialogue and design, there are some that try to play it a bit safer for the modern audience. Larry is way more American than he was before, which technically does add to the irony of Carlito’s fate. Meanwhile, Cliff’s dialogue about communists and the Vietnam War has been replaced with moles and animals.

These are the more noticeable changes in these sequences, but aside from being cosmetic, the actual boss fights are not altered. None of the bosses are removed from the game either. In fact, Thomas Hall, the reluctant sniper of the Hall Family, no longer has tomeet a gruesome fate.

5Weapons Now Have Durability

Check Your Zombie Slaying Equipment

Weapons in the original Dead Rising always showed you when they were about to break. This could be seen when the weapon icon starts flashing meaning that any moment now, your weapon will shatter.

In Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster, you can now see the full health of your weapons through a durability bar. Each time you swing away at the undead, this bar will go down allowing you to keep your arsenal refreshed at all times rather than get caught off guard at the last moment.

4The Ability To Speed Up Time

No More Waiting Around

One brand-new mechanic that got added to the game is the ability to speed through time. In the original game, you could kill time by killing zombies or going after survivors. However, there is always going to be some time between key story missions that you need to fill.

Sometimes, you just want to be able to play the next story mission right away. Now you can skip time by pulling out your watch in a safe spot such as the safe room or a bathroom.

3There Are New Items

New Books And Cut Weapons

Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster doesn’t just revamp everything that existed in the original but adds a few things as well. This includes weapons that never saw the light of day back in 2006, downloadable costumes, as well as brand-new books.

Some examples of this include the rocket launcher, which can demolishcrowds of undead. Meanwhile, new books now give you the ability to make thrown objects explode on impact. you may also use these books to blend inedible objects into more juices instead of just food items.

2There Are New Saving Features

Don’t Lose Your Progress

One of the biggest hurdles for new players is the time limit and save features of the game. If you want to save, you always need to run to a bathroom to do so. While the time limit is still present, there are a few more ways in which the game is forgiving.

For starters, the game features an autosave at key moments in the game. This means you don’t have to scramble to the bathroom each time after completing something major. You can also now save in infinity mode, making one of the hardest achievements in the game much easier.

1You Can Move While Aiming

Your Legs No Longer Lock

One of the best quality-of-life changes comes in the form of being able to move while aiming. This feature was originally added from Dead Rising 2 and onwards, but the original always locked you in place while trying to fire your guns.

Now, you may stride in any direction while keeping your crosshairs on enemies. This not only allows you to get out of the way during a fight but also stops Cletus from getting you into a shotgun lock during his boss fight, which was usually unfair.
