But while many of Wukong’s nods to history are overt, it seems the developers have been hiding secrets in clever ways, including the number of attacks an enemy has.
Black Myth: Wukong’s Erlang Shen Is Hiding Sneaky Nod To The Past

Erlang Shenis one of Black Myth: Wukong’s secret bosses and is needed for the game’s “true ending.” After encountering him in Wukong’s prologue, players will need to do battle once again with the legendary boss in order to see the game through fully.
The boss is known for being notoriously difficult with his wildly varied moveset, often taking players hours to overcome the fight. However, it’s recently been discovered that his moveset may, in fact, provide a link to the character’s real-world lore.
In Chinese folklore, Shen is capable of transforming into 73 different forms, making him virtually unstoppable. Across video-sharing websiteBilibiliandReddit, players have discovered that the boss has 73 different attacks, with each one corresponding to one of the god’s different transformations. He even has unique voice lines for each transformation.
The discovery has sent shockwaves across the game’s community, with fans stating, “It’s really incredible the work they put into this boss,” praising the effort of the development team.
It’s a neat touch from Game Science in itsrecord-breaking game, and one that explains just why Erlang Shen is revered as one of the most difficult bosses in all of gaming.
