Summary
Black Myth: Wukonghas been out for a little while, as players begin to tackle their New Game Plus runs in an attempt to get more enjoyment out of the game. Questions have naturally turned to whether developer Game Science has any sequel or DLC plans, and Daniel Wu - CEO of the game’s publisher Hero Games -confirmed with Bloomberg earlier this monththat an expansion is in the works.
We still don’t know exactly when Game Science is planning to release this DLC though, but thanks to China-based journalist and industry consultant Daniel Camilo, we might have a fairly precise release window.According to Camilo in a recent post on his personal Twitter account, he’s heard from “very reliable first-hand sources” that Game Science is planning to release the expansion in Early 2025.
Camilo claims that Game Science will want the expansion to drop at some point around the next Chinese New Year, which takes place on January 29 next year. It hasn’t been claimed that this date is specifically when it will drop, just that this is the area Game Science is aiming for, and Camilo has explained that it could drop “very soon after.”
Black Myth: Wukong Has Reportedly Sold 20 Million Copies
In a follow-up tweet, Camilo goes on to claim that the same reliable sources have revealed that Black Myth: Wukong has sold a whopping 20 million copies since launch. That isn’t totally shockinggiven the positive reviewsandhuge spike in players close to release, achieving Steam’s second-highest all-time peak player count. It managed to sell 10 million copies in just three days, so we shouldn’t be surprised it sold a further 10 million between then and now.
Still, those are impressive numbers, though Camilo doesn’t think an expansion will perform quite as well, mostly due to the lack of national pride surrounding it now and the challenge of the game itself. We’ll have to wait and see whether Camilo’s predictions - and claims about the release date - are true, but he does note that “nothing is ever set in stone” when it comes to game development.
