At this point, it’s unclear if an official announcement is imminent. Xbox held two events recently, one at Tokyo Game Show, and the other this past week as a Partner Preview. Either would have been prime spots for an official reveal, though that was obviously not the case. With The Game Awards on the horizon, perhaps the announcement will be held there.

Constant Rumors Impacted Wukong’s Release

Previously, it was rumored that the game was a PS5 exclusive, or at least a timed exclusive. While there was never any true concrete information,Microsoft made the rare statement back in June when the game was indefinitely delayed on Xbox for supposed optimization purposes. That statement appeared to confirm some sort of exclusivity in non-certain words.

“We’re excited for the launch of Black Myth Wukong on Xbox Series X|S and are working with Game Science to bring the game to our platforms. We can’t comment on the deals made by our partners with other platform holders, but we remain focused on making Xbox the best platform for gamers, and great games are at the center of that.”

Things weren’t helped a few months later, when, in a Digital Foundry video,it was relayed that a potential Series S release would have to be massively downgraded. The game apparently struggled to maintain a constant 30 fps, along with visual downgrades on a PC with similar specs to aSeries S.

Of course, it’s entirely possible that Game Science has found a way to get the game running as optimally as possible on a Series S. Only time will tell, however, if that’s the case. But for now, it looks like the game will at least see its moment on Microsoft’s flagship console.
