Summary
Screenshots ofa survival game that was in development over at Blizzard, said to be called Odyssey, have seemingly leaked online. A user on the Russian website VK posted the screenshots earlier this week, claiming that they were taken from Odyssey before the project was scrapped in January of this year.
As reported byGamesRadar, these screenshots show a cartoon-like fantasy setting, matching the official concept art that was released. If real, this would be our first look at the game, and perhaps the only look we’re going to get considering it’s already been cancelled.
Russian Social Media User Claims To Have Screenshots From Project Odyssey
VK user BlizzardMCposted these screenshotson September 5, and they show off both the setting of the game as well its mechanics. We also get a good look at the UI, showing what kind of stats we would have had to keep track of, since this was intended to be a survival game.
The name “Odyssey” wasfirst attached to the project back in April of last year. Here, it was also reported that the game would have “cartoony” graphics. Both of these points are backed up with today’s leak, as the social media user also refers to the game as Project Odyssey.
Whatever it was called, the game wascancelled in January of this year, whenMicrosoftenacted a huge wave of layoffs acrossActivision Blizzard. This came after Microsoft finally acquired Activision Blizzard, although the industry giant seemingly didn’t find that the survival game suited its strategy going forward.
These layoffs saw around1,900 workers lose their jobs across Activision Blizzard. This made up almost nine percent of the total workforce of the company at the time.
Now, we’re unlikely to get much more information about Project Odyssey, or whatever it was going to be called. It never even got the chance to be properly revealed to the public, so most of what we know comes through rumours - and now, leaks.
