Summary

Bring Me The Horizon’sLudenswas one of the most iconic songs linked to the originalDeath Stranding. Lyrically poignant and perfectly fitting, the track became synonymous withHideo Kojima’scerebral masterpiece.

Unfortunately for fans of the band, the song, orthe melding of Kojima and Bring Me The Horizon, lead singer Oli Sykes revealed to TheGamer that they won’t be creating a track for the 2019 game’s sequel,Death Stranding 2: On The Beach.

There Will Be No Ludens Follow-Up In Death Stranding 2: On The Beach

In ourexclusive interview with Bring Me The Horizon frontman Oli Sykes, I asked Sykes if we could expect a song from the band somewhere in the new game. The response I got was simple. “No.”

It was a much shorter answer than any of the others Sykes gave me in our interview, so there is every possibility he just can’t say anything; however, his brutal honesty in all other areas of our chat makes the answer more believable.

Bring Me The Horizon’s history with Kojima is an interesting one. Despite initiallyexpecting an injunction from the legendary developer, the two built bridges leading to the creation of Ludens, which in itself was a challenge.

Sykes told me that despite usually taking up to half a year to perfect a song, the band had a little over a week to conceptualize, create, and record Ludens. “By the time we handed it in, and I’m not exaggerating, I think we had, from the moment we got told to the moment we had to hand it in was about ten days,” he said, adding, “When we handed it in, we were like, ‘no idea, this could be terrible.'”

While the song turned out to be a hit, Sykes had limited knowledge to lean on. Receiving no brief from the Death Stranding team, he told me, “I just did a deep dive on the, at the time, there wasn’t an awful lot of information about what it was about, apart from Ludens and the idea of it meaning player and meaning hero and stuff.”

Bring Me The Horizon’s POST HUMAN: NeX GEn is out now, with thephysical release coming on September 27.
