Summary
It’s no secret that whenever Caitlin Clark steps on a basketball court, something historic is bound to happen. After all,the former Iowa collegiate star left the NCAA world having become Iowa’s all-time leading scorer and the all-time leading scorer in Division I history, men’s or women’s, among other marks.
Then, after becoming the No. 1 overall pick in this year’s WNBA draft, Clark has continued to set ridiculous marks as a 22-year-old rookie. That said, her historical run and sheer dominance has continued off the court and into the world of video games.
With NBA 2K25 launching this week, the Indiana Fever star has become the game’s highest rated rookie ever. Indeed, Clark has launched with a record 91 overall, something no other player, male or female, has done in the game’s history.
What’s more is that this is her launch rating, and by the end of the game’s life cycle, it’s entirely possible that her rating is even higher. She’s already set the single-season rookie record for 3-pointers, as well as assists, along with being the first rookie to achieve a triple-double in WNBA history.
Not Even Victor Wembanyama Was Rated That High
To put Clark’s rating into further perspective, last year’s No. 1 overall pick on the NBA side did not launch with a rating nearly as close. Victor Wembanyama, who was arguably the most hyped men’s basketball player since LeBron James, launched at an 84 overall. Even with the historic season he had, which included a Rookie of the Year award, he only finished with an 89.
In other words, it’s a pretty massive distinction for Clark. And, of course, all of it is well deserved, too. What she’s doing on the basketball court has literally never been done before. It stands to reason that come next year, she’ll be on the cover of the game as the WNBA’s representative.
