Summary

Call Of Duty just experienced one of the biggest weekends in its history. Not numbers-wise - althoughit appears to have performed pretty well on that front- but becauseBlack Ops 6is the first game in the series to launch day one on Game Pass. It also marks the return to Call Of Duty’s traditional prestige system, and Activision has brought a long-forgotten sound effect back along with it.

Classic Prestige was ditched for the Modern Warfare reboot in 2019 and five years later, it’s back. For newer CoD players unfamiliar with the system, once you reach level 55, you are presented with the option to prestige which resets your level to one, or keep everything you have unlocked and remain at level 55.

Sticking with all of the weapons and cosmetics you’ve grinded hard for up until that point might sound like a no-brainer, but it’s not that simple. Not only will you get a new emblem alongside your name for prestiging to flaunt to rivals, but you will also unlock some unique cosmetic items that can only be unlocked if you prestige. On top of all that, if you opt to keep all your stuff rather than prestige and start over, the game will taunt you with a chicken sound.

Call Of Duty Will Call You A Chicken If You Don’t Prestige In Black Ops 6

Just Like It Used To Do In The Original Modern Warfare 2

Those who haven’t been playing Call Of Duty for the past decade and a half might not know the origins of the in-game chicken noise. Its origins can be traced back toModern Warfare 2. Not the reboot, but the original Modern Warfare 2 from 2009 that is still considered by many (myself included) to be the best in the series. If you opted to stick with your lofty level rather than trade it in for a shiny new prestige emblem in the original Modern Warfare 2, and also in the OG Modern Warfare 3, the same chicken noise that has returned for Black Ops 6 would sound.

To some, this will be a minor, perhaps even insignificant detail, and those people are half right. It’s certainly minor and would have taken little effort by Treyarch to implement, but it’s minor details like this one that will help win over those who play Call Of Duty every year and carefully pick through the differences between each game. Unfortunately, the chicken noisehasn’t prevented Black Ops 6 from debuting to mixed reviews on Steam.

The bugs on the PC version of the game are the biggest driver behind it not receiving the warmest welcome on Steam. Despite none of them paying for it though, Xbox will be hoping most people play it on Game Pass. Analysts have predictedas many as four million people will get Game Pass to play Black Ops 6, and if a significant chunk of them stick around, that’ll be a huge win for the service.

WHERE TO PLAY

Developed by Treyarch and Raven, Black Ops 6 is a spy action thriller set in the early 90s, a period of transition and upheaval in global politics, characterized by the end of the Cold War and the rise of the United States as a single superpower. With a mind-bending narrative, and unbound by the rules of engagement, this is signature Black Ops.
