Summary
A common misconception forThe Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdomis that combat takes a backseat thanks to Zelda’s Echoes ability, but in truth, combat in the series has never been as thoughtful or varied as it is in Echoes of Wisdom.
With a massive selection of combat-focused Echoes, a focus on strategic manoeuvring, and secondary and tertiary forms of attacking, there are plenty of features and mechanics to exploit to make Zelda as powerful as possible. So, what are some tips to keep in mind to triumph in combat in Echoes of Wisdom?
8Have A Go-To Flying And Ground Enemy
You’ll Need Variety
Aside from bosses, the best way to classify enemies in Echoes of Wisdom are flying and ground. For each of these different types of enemies, you’ll need a drastically different set of skills and strategies to best take them down.
Even if a ground Echo is able to hit flying enemies, this might not be the best way to take them down, and the same can be said the other way around. If you learn which Echoes are best for attacking flying and ground enemies, and use them separately, you’ll be able to take down foes a lot more effectively. For example, Mothulas are a great flying option thanks to their aggressive attack pattern compared to more passive flying Echoes.
7Use The Dancing Outfit
Put A Spin On It
If you haven’t been experimenting with the combat in Echoes of Wisdom, then you might not have noticed that Zelda’s handy spin ability can deflect some of the weaker (but still annoying) projectiles that enemies can hurl at you.
For a better chance at deflecting these, use the Dancing Outfit that you unlock by helping out the Mango Researcher in Gerudo Desert. This outfit will increase the spin radius of Zelda’s spin, ensuring a wider chance of deflecting these pesky projectiles.
6Get The Peahat For Early Game
Sweep The Competition
For each portion of the game, you can find specific Echoes that will be the best at taking down other enemies, and for the early-game the best option is the Peahat. This spikey, flying plant monster has a wide-range spin attack that deals a lot of damage in a quick period of time.
You’ll want to keep track of when the Peahat takes breaks from attacking, as this downtime can be better used to reposition your summon. Make sure you’re sending out the Peahat during early-game bosses since it can take full advantage of small periods of vulnerability.
5Recall And Send Back Out For Quick Hits
Speedy Damage
If you’re at least a few hours into Echoes of Wisdom, you’ve likely noticed that almost all of the summoned Echoes in the game will attack in a certain pattern. Even the best Echoes in the game will have some brief pauses between attacks.
If you’re looking to deal as much damage as possible in a short period of time, like a bosses' moment of vulnerability, you can send out and recall your Echoes to take advantage of the burst of damage they’ll deal soon after they’re summoned. This works better with some enemies compared to others, so test out this method on your different Echoes. This method is especially effective for Wizzrobes thanks to their early attack followed by a long downtime.
4Get Level 3 Lizalfos For Mid Game
The Mighty Spear
Afterbeating the fourth dungeon, you’ll be given the option to tackle the next three areas in whichever order you’d like, but if you want access to one of the best Echoes in the mid-game, head over to Faron Wetlands.
At the end of an optional cave you can explore in the area, you’ll find a level 3 Lizalfos at the end, ready for an underwater battle. This is a pretty tricky encounter since you’re underwater (use Level 2 Tanglers if you want an easier time), but if you manage to take it down, you’ll have access to a fantastic summon to carry you through the second half of the game.
3Use Might Crystals On Energy And Sword
Prioritize Power
Quite early on in Echoes of Wisdom, you’ll meet Lueberry who will use the Might Crystals you’ve collected on your journey to upgrade any abilities related to the Sword of Might. He gives you the option to upgrade your energy level, sword power, bow attacks, and bombs.
For most play-throughs, you’ll want to prioritize powering up your energy and then your sword, since these are the most useful for taking down bosses and dealing a good amount of damage. After this, moving onto the bow is the best option.
2Get The Lynel For End Game
Available For The Final Boss Gauntlet
While it is not available until very late in the game, one of the best Echoes you can get to have an easy time in combat in Echoes of Wisdom is the Lynel. Based on the design of the hulking creature used in Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, this is the hardest hitting Echo you’ll want to have on your side.
To find the sole Lynel in Hyrule, you’ll want to follow the prints marked in the mud in Eternal Forest, making sure not to miss any directions, until you make it to the Lynel’s den. This will be a tough fight, so ensure to have plenty of smoothies to ensure you don’t have to retry.
1Use Automatons
Dampe’s Soldiers
For the final boss in Echoes of Wisdom, you won’t have access to the Sword of Might, this means that Zelda will only be able to rely on her Echoes. However, if you’ve gone to the effort of befriending and helping out Dampe, you’ll haveaccess to your automatonsthat you’re able to use alongside your Echoes.
They are useful in all kinds of combat situations, not just the last boss, and there are six to unlock by helping out Dampe using different Echoes and quest rewards. It’s one of the longer quests in Echoes of Wisdom, but well worth doing if you want more help during combat. For example, strategically placing the early-unlock Toktorok out of harms way is a great way to have a constant stream of projectiles weakening your targets without much effort.
