We’ve left Paris behindto venture to Ireland inBroken Sword - Shadow of the Templars: Reforgednow that we know the mysterious clown bombing is somehow tied to the Knights Templar. George may have a few new clues, but there’s still lots to uncover and Ireland might just be one of the hardest parts of the game.
We’ve got you covered in terms of what you need to know, and as a reminder, we’re focusing on the main interactions you need to progress, but there are lots of funny and interesting optional dialogue lines and scenes you will see if you explore a bit more.
MacDevitt’s Bar
Once you’ve arrived in Ireland, you’ll find yourself outside of MacDevitt’s Bar.Speak to the kid to the right of the door, it doesn’t matter if you introduce yourself properly or as Rosso.
Speak with himabout the photo of the castle repeatedlyuntil it disappears.
Head insidethe bar.Grab the green bar towelwhen the man leaning on it lifts his arm to drink his pint.
George will need to be next to it in order to time this right.
Next, speak to O’Brien, the man sat at the left end of the bar, about the following:
End the conversationand goback outside to speak to the kid, Maguire, about:
End the conversationandhead back inside. The man with the glasses and yellow jacket is Sean Fitzgerald, sogo over and speak with him.
End the conversationand go andspeak with Doyle, the regular to the right of O’brien, and ask him about:
End the conversationand go back outside andask Maguireabout:
End that conversationandreturn to Seanand ask him about:
At this point,he will run outside, and shortly afterward Maguire runs in to say he was run down by a red sports car.
Go over andstand next to the man sneezing in the corner. Wait for him to put his wire on the table and thengrab it when he sneezes.
Once again, this is all about timing, so make sure you’re right next to him and ready to get it.
Head outside and Maguire will immediately tell you what happened. End the conversation andcheck out the exposed electrical boxon the wall.
Go back insidethe bar andspeak to the landlordto ask him topour you a pint. He’ll soon realise the pump is broken.
Show him Moerlin’s electrician pass card, and he’ll let you behind the bar.
Use the wire you stole from the old man on the plugto the right of the glass washer.
Now you cango down into the cellar, you want toflip the leveryou can just about see towards the right of the screen.
Head back upstairsandleave the bar. Outside, open the trap door to the cellar. After a brief visit from Khan,go back into the bar and down into the cellar. George will grab the flashlight and then the gem. His priorities are wrong, clearly.
Head back upstairs andleave the bar, thentake the path to the righttowards the castle.
The Castle
At the castle, speak to the man beside the haybale about the sports caruntil the icon disappears, and thentalk about Seanuntil he leaves you to guard the haystack.
Once he’s gone, climb the haystackby interacting with it and go to the top. There, you’ll want touse the sewer key from your inventory on the crack in the wall, and then you canclimb over the walland into the castle.
Once you’re over the wall you’ll be faced with the infamous goat puzzle. This one was a doozy back in the day, and while I make it look easy in our video, know that I paid my dues when I played the original version in my youth.
How To Get Past The Goat Puzzle
Essentially, you want to go down the step ladder to the right of the goat, but any time you attempt to do this it’ll knock you down. What you need to do isgo for the ladder, then once you’re knocked down, quicklyclick the plough on the leftso that George runs over and moves it. This causes the goat to get tangled in the plough, leaving you free to go down the ladder.
Line your cursor up with the plough while George is falling so that you’re ready to click it as soon as the icon appears.
Down the ladder, interact with the sack on the tableon the right to get some plaster of Paris. Next, try to pick up the statue on the floor, then after it falls over, interact with it againso that it is standing once more.
Use the plaster of Paris from your inventory on the holesin the floor. Now it’s time for a quick run back to the bar, so go back up the ladder, over the wall, into the bar, and into the cellar.
Switch the faucet onand thenuse the bar towel from your inventory on the faucetto make it wet. Once you’ve done that, return to the castle cellarwith the plaster of Paris.
You need to be as quick as possible doing this as otherwise the cloth will dry out and you’ll have to go back to the bar and wet it again.
Use the bar towel on the plaster of Paris in the holes, and thenpick up the freshly made plaster mouldanduse it on the holes in the wallto open up a secret door.Head insidefor a short cutscene before returning to Paris.
