Man-Eater’s Grotto is an important optional dungeon location inMetaphor: ReFantazionot only for fulfilling the bounty contract to exterminateAlpha Rock Varmo, but for locating one of Neuras' relics, as well. This makes it doubly worth investigating, so investigate, we must.

Using a certain NPC as a waypoint, our Man-Eater’s Grotto walkthrough will make sure you don’t miss a single treasure on your way to both of the aforementioned objectives. We’ve got a link straight to the boss fight, too. Get in here, get out of here, and get back to your unlkely quest to change the challenging world of Metaphor: ReFantazio.

Entering Man-Eater’s Grotto in Metaphor: ReFantazio.

You can enterMan-Eater’s Grotto prior to obtaining your fourth party member, which occurs a few days into its earliest availability. We suggest waiting until the fourth, but it’s not impossible without him.

Blocks Ice. Weak to Fire. Can inflict Paralysis.

Juvenile Rockworm Valmo

Weak to Ice. Sandstorm lowers everyone’s Hit and Evasion. Festering Saliva not only damages, but often inflicts Paralysis.

You’ll notice very quickly thatMan-Eater’s Grotto is labyrinthine. It’s not so much about “reaching the next room” asascertaining when to climb to higher elevations, when to leap back down, and of course, where to find all the treasure along the way.

If you look at your mini-map, there’s an area to your left almost immediately on your way in, butyou can’t access it from here. This will be a recurring issue in Man-Eater’s Grotto. Instead, do the only thing you can do -leap off the ledge up ahead.

TheJunior Rockworm Valmosdown here can easilyambush youif you don’t know their game plan. When you see oneburrow underground, run away from its underground trajectory, waiting for it to ascend. Then, attack it.

Northwest, there’s an NPC calledWorldly Adventurerwho’ll tell you about the Gangaflos. Let’suse this NPC as a guidepostfor the contents ofthe two main exits in this area.

You might be wondering, “What about the third exit, the one to the south?“The southern exit loops back to the dungeon’s entrance, giving you a way back to the entry door. That’s it.

Northeast From The Worldly Adventurer

To your immediateleft, there’s our buddy, theTalkative Tooth, and a drop to a lower level. As this leads youback to the entry area, don’t take the plunge yet. Instead, find the crawlspace to the treasure chest containing Screwed-Up Mineral.

IfNeurashas already told you that he’slooking for a relic, this treasure chest would have been given a quest marker. Either way, you’ll need this to progress his Follower ranks, so it’s an important find.

The blue item at thesoutheast corner of this roomcontains aHero’s Fruit, so don’t miss it. As for thetreasure chest, it contains an arguably less impressiveOnyx.

Once you’ve scoured the area, use either of the left-side ledges to leap down, then return to the NPC if you’re still exploring the paths from his location.

North From The Worldly Adventurer

After hopping down the forced ledge, take notice of the “normal” blue item a bit southwest from you, as it contains aMagic Incense. Then, find thesoutheast cornerof the room, with anAquamarine treasure chest.

To thenorthwest, you’ll find aMagla Crystal blocking further travel. The enemy spawns here can containas many as five Juvenile Rock Valmos, so do your best to get a preemptive strike to make your life far easier.

After destroying the Magla Crystal, follow the corridor to the north for a Gold Beetlein the middle ofexits to the left and to the right.

Through theright exitis atreasure chestwith a lovelyHero’s Leaf of Light. Through theleft exit, there’s awestchest with an Energy Incenseand asouth chest with an Amethyst.

Jump down from the ledge near the south chestto return toroughly where the Magla Crystal was destroyed. Now that we’re back here, run south, and then take the left exithere to find aPlaintive SoldierNPC.

From here, venturing all the way north(don’t miss theQuartz Macetreasure on the way) will bring you toPlateau, the save-file feline, and the door to the boss fight. Whenever you’re ready to face theAlpha Rock Valmo, follow our boss guide to take them out!

Getting The Beast Fang Katana

Venturing south, on the other hand, leads you to the sole instance of aChimenzaenemy. This three-headed beastresists Fire, but is weak to Wind, making aMagic Seeker with Cycloits worst nightmare. It’s alsoeasy to stunbefore combat.

After we defeated the Chimenza, we received the excellentBeast Fang Katana. It’s a weapon for theThief Archetype(unlocked via the fourth party member) with anAttack of 180 that inflicts Poisonvia its normal attacks. It’s worth the effort!

If, by chance, you don’t receive the Beast Fang Katana, go ahead and grind on the Chimenza a few times until it appears.

Thenorth exitfrom the Chimenza is nothing but auseless ledge, while theeast exitsends you up some stairs for aTurqoisetreasure anda switch that’ll give you a shortcut back to the main entrance. That’s everything to see in Man-Eater’s Grotto!
