Summary

Dead Rising Deluxe Remastersadly doesn’t address Dead Rising 3’s retcon of Nick Ramos being one of the orphans on Carlito’s list, choosing to ignore it altogether.

Ever since Capcom announced thatDead Risingwould be, ahem, rising from its grave and getting a strangely titled remake, fans have wondered just how much of the original game was going to be changed around. We’ve seen plenty of examples of the tweaks that have been made to gameplay, but there was one story element that the community has been talking about.

The list of Carlito’s Orphans in Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster.

I am, of course, talking about Carlito’s list of 50 orphans(also known as “ticking time bombs”) that he infected with the zombie parasite before the events of Dead Rising. In Dead Rising 3,we learn that Nick Ramos is actually one of those orphans, and that his number 12 tattoo is a direct reference to this.

The funny thing about this is that in the original Dead Rising, the 12th orphan on Carlito’s list is actually named Lisa Jackson instead of Nick Ramos. Some fans wondered if Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster would take the time to correct this inconsistency and put Nick’s name down where it should be, but that sadly isn’t the case.

In the cutscene where Frank and Isabella look at Carlito’s laptop and see the list of orphans, Lisa Jackson is still listed as number 12 instead of Nick Ramos. It’s a pretty well-known inconsistency in the Dead Rising series, so it’s a bit strange that Capcom hasn’t fixed it and seems to suggest that it’s not really interested in including Dead Rising 3 as part of the canon.

The same goes for Diego Martinez, who is said to be the 49th orphan on Carlito’s list despite the actual document saying “Johann Collins”.

In fairness to Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster, putting Nick (and Diego) on the list of Carlito’s orphans would create some kind of expectation that Dead Rising 3 might eventually get a remake of some kind.Capcom has expressed interest in doing more with the series now that it’s back, but it’s probably just taking it one step at a time right now and not trying to tempt fans with a wider universe beyond Frank West.
