Summary

Dead Rising Deluxe Remasterhas surprisingly remodelled and upgraded the Beam Gun, an infamous weapon that was cut from the original game and eventually discovered deep in its files.

I might be a bit biased hereconsidering how much love I have for Dead Rising, but the original gamehas one of the most interesting development histories of any of Capcom’s catalogue. It changed so much from its initial reveal andhas so many features, areas, and bits of content that were cut, and it seems thatDeluxe Remaster cares about its past as much as fans do.

There are already some interesting nods to Dead Rising’s history in Deluxe Remaster, such as the Rocket Launcher weapon that was cut from the original game, but a reliable Dead Rising historian has discovered an incredibly deep cut reference to one of the game’s most mysterious omissions - the Beam Gun.

In the files of the original 2006 version of Dead Rising, a model was found for an unnamed weapon that didn’t have any textures and resembled a futuristic weapon.Dead Rising YouTuber STiP0 and some other members of the community eventually figured outthat it was called the Beam Gun and even managed to retexture it and make it somewhat useable.

The Beam Gun is one of the most well-known bits of cut content from Dead Risingand many wondered if Deluxe Remaster would cheekily include it as a nice nod to the game’s history. Well, that isn’t entirely the case, but it’s clear that the developers knew about the Beam Gun and had some interest in it, as STiP0 has discovered a remodelled version of it in the game’s files.

Over on his secondary YouTube channel, STiP0 shared a video of the Beam Gun (which is still unnamed in Deluxe Remaster) being spawned and used in the remake. What’s interesting here is that it’s been completely remodelled and upgraded, which suggests the developers purposefully remade it for Deluxe Remaster, even if it can’t be accessed by most players.

The Beam Gun still functions as a sniper rifle-esque weapon in Deluxe Remaster, despite looking more like a space assault rifle or cannon.

It’s not really clear if the Beam Gun was supposed to be added as a secret unlockable or if it really was just for those digging into the game’s files, but it’s still a very interesting discovery and more proof of how much work went into Deluxe Remaster. Here’s hoping modders can get it working for everyone as soon as possible.
