Summary
Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster’s director, Ryosuke Murai, thinks that a cruise ship would be a perfect setting for any potential newDead Risinggames in the future.
As Dead Rising 3 and 4 harshly reminded us,one of the most important aspects of any Dead Rising game is its setting. Willamette Mall and Fortune Cityare a big part of why the first two games in the series are so beloved, while the locations seen in later entries in the series lacked the personal touch that makes exploring a zombie-infested area so much fun.
Now that the series is finally re-emerging from its grave, Dead Rising fans have been discussing which location they’d love to see for a potential fifth game in the series. While there are a lot of suggestions, one of the most common and popular is a cruise ship, which most players agree suits the series really well while offering something a bit more unique than another shopping mall or city area.
It’s not just Dead Rising fans who think a cruise ship would be perfect for Dead Rising 5, though. While speaking to TheGamer atTokyo Game Show, Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster’s director, Ryosuke Murai, was asked what he thinks about a new entry in the series taking place on a ship instead of the usual grounded location.
In response, Murai agreed that it would be a “great setting”. He notes that the ship being on the sea would capture the same “trapped” feeling that previous Dead Rising games have managed, but that its massive size means that there would be lots of potential areas to explore without ever having to leave the boat. Oh, and of course there’d be sharks involved too.
I think a cruise ship would be a great setting. It’s a specific location that if you’re at sea you’d be trapped in it, but it’s also one of those massive super ships that could have lots of things to explore. And we could also put together zombies and sharks, which would be together at last. - Ryosuke Murai
Considering how Fortune City combined casinos with shopping malls, it’s easy to imagine a huge cruise ship with multiple different themes and shopping areas that are all overrun with zombies. Of course,it’s going to be up to Capcom to actually greenlight Dead Rising 5 and get this setting into motion, but it’s a good sign that Deluxe Remaster’s director thinks a cruise ship is such an ideal setting too.
