Summary

Dead Rising Deluxe Remastercontains a picture of Frank West’s beta model from 2005, both a homage to the series' roots and potentially a tongue-in-cheek reference byCapcomto some of the discourse surrounding the appearance of Frank in the remaster.

Dead Rising fans will know that Frank West’s gravelly features have changed throughout the series, especially his hairline of variable recession. When the Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster was first announced, some dissatisfied fans werecomparing Frank’s redesigned look to his original beta mode, especially in the hair department.

Looking Good, Frank

As it turns out, there’s an easter egg of Frank’s 2005 beta model in the Deluxe Remaster. Jessica (Jessie) McCarney, the Homeland Security agent who communicates with Frank via the transceiver is more intimately familiar with West than we might have imagined.

As spotted by X user, YouTuber and massive Dead Rising fanSTiP0, if you look closely at Jessie’s phone during one of the cutscenes you’ll see that her screen saver is none other than Frank West, circa 2005. It’s likely Capcom is just referencing the series' beginnings, but it is funny that the new Frank West resembles his beta counterpart.

The Deluxe Remaster is filled with neat references to the series and the fandom that grew around it. Frank West’s iconic response “I’ve covered wars, y’know” to Jessie’s suggestion that he couldn’t take care of himself became a meme in the community, so much so thatCapcom included a war correspondent outfit for Frank in the remaster.

Dead Rising had such an interesting development cycle, with several of the game’s features, locations and content changing mid-development. This has resulted in a lot of cut content; Capcom has restored some content, like therocket launcher, but not all of it. Despite the anticipation, the long wait to try out thebeam gungoes on for Dead Rising fans.
