Summary

Dead Rising Deluxe Remasterincludes a new Rocket Launcher weapon that is seemingly based on a piece of cut content from the original 2006 game.

For the most part,Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster is a very faithful remake of the original gamethat focuses on bringing everything back faithfully, making some changes to the gameplay, and not adding too much new content. That being said, there are some interesting bits of new content to be found, although some players might not realise the history behind it.

While most of the new items that have been added to Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster are overpowered books that give Frank a variety of different buffs, the most interesting newcomer is one that actually has a lot of history in Dead Rising. No, I’m not talking about the Beam Gun - I mean the Rocket Launcher.

As reported by Dead Rising historian STiP0, the original 2006 version of the game has an unused model for a weapon titled “Bazooka”, which is believed by some to be a placeholder for the Real Mega Buster. The Bazooka never makes an appearance in Dead Rising and can’t be used by Frank, and purely exists as a model in the files.

That’s not the case in Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster, though. As some fans speculated from the piece of key art showing a bazooka flying over Frank West’s head, one of the only new weapons that have been added to Deluxe Remaster is the Rocket Launcher, which is clearly based on the bazooka that was in the game’s files.

It’s not a very common weapon, however. The Rocket Launcher can only be picked up (as far as I’m aware) from Special Forces members wielding it, which only happens in the final hours of the last day. That’s not a very big window of time, and it only has three shots, so it’s pretty rare you’ll have one.

Sadly, the Beam Gun and other bits of cut content from Dead Rising haven’t been added to the remake. It’s not clear why the Rocket Launcher was chosen over everything else but it’s a nice addition anyway.

Still, even if it isn’t all that frequent, the Rocket Launcher is a nice nod to Dead Rising’s history and gives the Special Forces a bit more of an impact when they arrive in Deluxe Remaster. Not that they really needed it, being the most difficult enemies in the whole game.
