Summary
Capcomhas confirmed that Frank West will level up much faster inDead Rising Deluxe Remasterthan he did in the original release, something that fans aren’t exactly thrilled about.
Ever since theDead Rising Deluxe Remaster was first revealed as a semi-remake of the 2006 classic, fans have wondered just how much was going to be changed. The first few trailers indicated that it was a shot-for-shot remake thatimproved the graphics and added some quality-of-life features, but as we’ve learned more about Deluxe Remaster,it’s become clear that there’s more to it than that.
As it turns out, Capcom has made a lot of minor changes to the Dead Rising formula that all add up tomaking it a much more approachable entry point to the series, such asadding saves to Infinite Mode. Another change that’s been made is an increase to how fast Frank levels up, which was something fans noticedafter previews of the game went live a few months ago.
Although fans and press noticed that Frank levels up a lot faster in Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster, it wasn’t something that had been officially confirmed by Capcom, leading some to believe it might just have been implemented for previews of the game. That isn’t the case, though,as a new post from Japanese site Gamer has confirmed that it’s a permanent tweak.
The news post, which also revealed the changes made to Infinite Mode, talks about some of the changes that have been made to Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster, as well as outlining how the basic gameplay loop works. One section of the article talks about the “free gameplay” and some of the actions that Frank can perform once he unlocks skills by levelling up.
During my preview of Deluxe Remaster, I had already reached Level 10 by the time I rescued Jeff and Natalie, which is very early on in the game.
After sharing how PP works in Dead Rising, the article states that “this version has been tuned to make it easier to level up than the original”, which confirms that levelling up will be faster in Deluxe Remaster. It’s not clear how the PP has been adjusted, but from my time with the game it seems that you get more PP from photos and saving survivors.
As you’re able to probably imagine, Dead Rising fans are a little mixed on the change.Over on the Dead Rising subreddit, fans have called the PP increase “controversial” while arguing about whether it’s a good thing or not. The common consensus is that Deluxe Remaster should have included difficulty modes for players to choose from so they could decide how easy things get.
