Summary

Despite removing the reward for taking risque photos,Dead Rising Deluxe Remasterhasn’t changed how the infamous Cheryl’s Request scoop plays out.

AlthoughDead Rising Deluxe Remaster mostly stays very true to the original 2006 releaseand just makes someminor gameplay tweaks to make it less frustrating, it does make some changes to the game’s content. The biggest change, and one that hasn’t gone down well with fans, is theremoval of PP points for taking risque photos of zombies and humans.

In the original game, when Frank would take a photo of a female survivor or even of specific female zombies, he’d be rewarded with experience points as part of a unique photo category. That category, known as “Erotica”, has been completely removed from the gameand has even resulted in some missions being changed. One mission that surprisingly stays the same, however, is Cheryl’s Request.

If you save Cheryl from Colby’s Movieland in the 2006 Dead Rising, she’ll eventuallycall Frank back to the safehouse for a mission called Cheryl’s Request. In the mission, she asks Frank to take photos of her in case she doesn’t survive Willamette Mall, which leads to her posing provocatively and rewarding Frank with a ton of PP points in the “Erotica” category.

Considering how Deluxe Remaster removes that mechanic entirely and how Kent’s mission has even been changed to reflect that, many assumed that Cheryl’s Request would also be taken out of the game. That isn’t the case, though, as it’s actually been kept exactly the same as it was in the original.

Interestingly, although her request stays the same, Cheryl has actually been redesigned to be a little less provocative.

The only difference in Deluxe Remaster is that the photos that Frank takes of Cheryl will no longer be marked as “Erotica” and are instead just regular photos with massive PP bonuses. Frank and Cheryl even have the same dialogue that they did in the original Dead Rising, with Frank noting how lucky he is as a man to take her photo.

Although I’m sure that some fans are going to be happy that more content wasn’t removed or changed for the remake, the moment does come off as a little weird considering how there’s now nothing else like it in the game. It feels like a remnant of the old Dead Rising instead of what it’s trying to be now and left a bit of a weird taste in my mouth, despite having played the original version of the quest.
