Summary
A talentedDead Risingfan has managed to get the infamous scrapped Beam Gun to work inDeluxe Remaster, finally making one of the game’s most well-known secrets a reality.
As great as Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster iswhen it comes to bringing the series back and capturing its spirit,it’s fair to say that it doesn’t add much new content to the experience. Beyond some quality-of-life changes, a few new books, and the scrapped Rocket Launcher weapon, it’s going to be a very familiar trip to Willamette for fans.
While I personally loved getting to re-experienceDead Rising with a fresh coat of paint and far better gameplay mechanics, it does seem like a bit more new could have been added. That even appears to have been the plan at one point,as a reliable Dead Rising insider found evidence that the infamous Beam Gunwas finally going to be made useable.
Back when Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster first launched,Dead Rising historian STiP0 discovered that a remodelled version of the Beam Gun was hidden in the game’s files, suggesting the developers intended to make it playable at one point or another. While STiP0 was able to get it to spawn in the remaster, it’s just as useless as it was back in the original game.
That’s not the case anymore, though. As highlighted by Twitter user FrankByDaylight, Nexus Modscreator countmosh has made Dead Rising history and finally got the Beam Gun working. The mod works byreplacing the unlockable Real Mega Buster weaponwith the Beam Gun, complete with its original firing sound.
To make things even cooler, countmosh has customised the mesh to reduce how much it clips when wielded by Frank, as well as tweaking the UI and other visual elements to make it feel as official as possible. We don’t actually know what the Beam Gun’s projectile would have looked like, but this version uses an edited charge blast from the Mega Buster while using the fire rate left in the files for the Beam Gun.
Funnily enough, STiP0 actually had a hand in the mod as well, as countmosh confirms that he was sent the original sound effects by him and made him aware of it in the first place.
To put it simply, this mod is the closest thing we’ve ever gotten to the Beam Gun being easily accessible in Dead Rising, and even has all of the variables that the original weapon would have had. It’s a shame we never got an official version, but countmosh’s mod is easily the next best thing.
