Summary

Update 20:16 BST 19/09/24: It turns out that Frank actually can say Fantastic during gameplay in Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster, but it does seem to have been reduced a lot compared to the original game. I got it to trigger after saving in a bathroom 10 times, which cycles through the voice lines. Thanks to FrankByDaylight for pointing it out to me.

Dead Rising Deluxe Remasterhas seemingly cut down Frank West’sothercatchphrase, as he says “Fantastic” a lot less than he did in the original game, even with high-scoring photos.

One of the biggest talking points surrounding Dead Rising Deluxe Remasteris how it changed and recast Frank West, who now looks a lot older than he did in the original game and is voiced by Jas Patrick instead of TJ Rotolo.Although most fans have made their peace with Frank’s new look and sound, there were still some questions about how else he might be changed.

After playing through Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster myself(and loving Jas Patrick’s new take on the character), I’m happy to confirm he’s basically the same Frank as ever but with a slightly different delivery. There is one noticeable change, though, and it’s one that came as a big surprise to me - the reduction of Fantastic.

Frank West Says Fantastic A Lot Less In Deluxe Remaster

If you know anything about Frank West, then you likely know that he has two catchphrases. The first, “I’ve covered wars, y’know”,is alive and well in Deluxe Remaster, but the second, “Faaaantastic” is a lot harder to come by. In the original game, if you took a picture with a massive that awarded a massive amount of PP,Frank would almost always shout “Fantastic” in response.

In Deluxe Remaster, though, that response doesn’t happen as frequently. Frank will usually just say “Perfect” when he gets a particularly good photo, which was the second highest praise that he’d give an image in the original game. It doesn’t matter how much PP you get from a photo, as it seems that the line that plays is usually “Perfect” instead of “Fantastic”.

I’ve played Deluxe Remaster for over 50 hours now and have taken some photos that are worth more than 10,000 PP. That’s not a brag, since it’s very easy to do in the remake, but each time I’ve done it I’ve only heard “Perfect” in response. As it turns out, though,Twitter user FrankByDaylightlet me know that the voice line does happen on ocassion and is just a whole lot harder to trigger.

You should at least find some comfort in the fact that Frank is guaranteed to say “Fantastic” at least once in Deluxe Remaster. In the original game, Frank said it as part of a cutscene in Overtime mode, something that’s been kept for the remake.

After hearing from FrankByDaylight that it is in the game and can be heard by saving in the bathroom, I tried it out for myself and discovered that it does happen, albeit a lot less than in the 2006 release. It seems likely it also happens for photos too, but it’s completely up to luck if you end up hearing it or not. Still, at least it’s definitely in the game!
