Summary
After making $1.3 billion at the box office, Deadpool & Wolverine is about to get its second wind now that its cinematic run has ended and it is available to buy and rent through digital platforms. It also happens to be Deadpool’s 50th anniversary, and The Merc With A Mouth’s hit movie coinciding with his birthday has resulted in some very special, very limited merch being revealed ahead of New York Comic-Con.
Loungefly officially revealed its Deadpool 50th anniversary backpack this week. Its design features the anti-hero holding his hands together in a heart shape around a window on the bag’s pocket. There’s an image of Wolverine visible through the window, but there’s something even better you can look at through that window, and it’s not a copy of Deadpool & Wolverine, although pre-orders for theMCUmovie’s Steelbook are now available.
The backpack comes with an exclusive metallic Wolverine Pop, and although Loungefly hasn’t showcased the Pop inside the bag, visible through its pocket window, from where I’m sitting, the Pop looks like it would fit perfectly in the pocket and be framed by Deadpool’s heart hands. The Wolverine Pop has its claws out and is gritting its teeth. Fitting as I’ve always assumed Wolverine is constantly gritting his teeth and whatever dental damage he does by doing that is fixed by his regenerative superpowers.
Keep Wolverine Prisoner In This Loungefly Deadpool Backpack
Even His Claws Won’t Help Him This Time
The backpack has a repeating Deadpool logo pattern embossed into its faux leather, and there are various Easter Eggs waiting to be discovered incorporated into its design, like a cartoon taco as its zip tag. There really is only one downside to this backpack/Funko Pop combo reveal - the availability. The bundle will be released during New York Comic-Con which takes place between October 17 and October 20, and only 1,000 of them will be sold. It’s unclear what time exactly they will go on sale, but they won’t be around for long.
Even though the bundle will be released during NYCC, those not in attendance should still be able to buy it. Funko and Loungefly tend to add Comic-Con products to their sites all in one go at some point during the weekend.
Funko and Loungefly use San Diego and New York’s Comic-Cons to reveal and sell a lot of exclusive merch. At this year’s SDCC,Pokemon’s Arceus Jumbo Pop went on saleand sold out almost immediately, and I imaginethe similar Dialga figure will generate the same amount of fervor at NYCC.Sonic’s Metal Knuckles Popwill also be available during NYCC, a character so niche that a Comic-Con-exclusive release is a great way to ensure it performs well sales-wise.
