Hideo Kojima shared a bunch ofDeath Stranding 2: On The Beachfootage at Tokyo Game Show last week, highlighting the unsettlingly realistic photo mode, while also revealing that the doll man is named… Dollman. But what’s really interesting is that Elle Fanning’s character is called ‘Tomorrow’.
Fans ran with this announcement and quickly found a connection — the first Death Stranding’s tagline is, “Tomorrow is in your hands”, which is also the name of the final chapter in which you take BB, AKA Lou, out from their pod.
The leading theory right now is that Kojima was stating the obvious this whole time, that Tomorrow literally was in our hands. If fans are right, that means Elle Fanning is playing an older Lou, which has some interesting implications.
Time Skip, Or Beach Shenanigans?
There are two major theories about why Lou would be an adult by the time of Death Stranding 2, either there’s a big time skip after the first game, or it has something to do with the Beach. After all, it’simportant enough to be in the sequel’s subtitle.
To catch you up on your Death Stranding lore, the Beach is like limbo, a state between life and death. That means it’s a timeless space, which is why people who arrive here never age. The Chiral Network even uses this fact to send information back in time, which could possibly explain Fanning’s character. It would be incredibly on the nose, but Tomorrow might literally be Lou from tomorrow, sent back to yesterday.
Tomorrow is probably just a nickname, so this definitely fits. Die-Hardman isn’t named after his parent’s favourite Bruce Willis flick, after all, he earned that name in the military.
Given that Sam Porter doesn’t look that much older, I’m inclined to believe the Beach theory more than the time skip, especially considering he still has baby Lou with him. So, maybe Death Stranding 2 will have some time travel shenanigans, or maybe Tomorrow is just a red herring and we’re all reading too much into the last game’s tagline.We’ll find out next year.
