Bungie and NetEase have officially announced Destiny: Rising, a mobile version of the popular RPG shooter. The game will be set in an alternate timeline, before the events of the two games, but will still play in a similar manner.

Theinitial announcement of the partnershipwas made a few years ago, but no other details were shared. We now have a pre-alpha footage gameplay trailer, which looks pretty much like regular Destiny. However, one major difference you can spot in the trailer is the option to play in third-person perspective mode.

Destiny: Rising Is Set In An Alternate Timeline After The Collapse

“Destiny: Rising is set in an alternate timeline, many years before Destiny 1 & 2,” says theDestiny: Rising website. This timeline allows for a different exploration of how humanity began to rise from the ashes of the Collapse, when invaders from beyond the stars brought an end to what was once a golden age."

Since it’s set before the forming of the Guardians, you’ll come across familiar faces like Ikora Rey, Iron Lord Jolder, and Kabr, and even get to play as them. While you’ll be able to create and customize your own character, further expansions will let you experience the adventures of legendary Lightbearers, all of whom you’ve probably heard of.

As for your loadout, Destiny fans will find it pretty similar, with two weapons slots, one for Primary Weapons and one for Power Weapons, and a shared inventory between all of your characters. So, you won’t have to grind for each one of them separately. Each character will also have a unique Relic that defines their abilities and Super moves.

As for game modes, Destiny: Rising will feature its own campaign, along with the classic PvE and PvP modes, it will feature new modes like Haven Ops Strike, Gauntlet Ops, Morgran’s Prey, Legacy, Realms of the IX, and many more.

Destiny: Rising Closed Alpha Details

Pre-registrations for the closed alpha are already live on the Destiny: Rising website. The closed alpha will launch on June 06, 2025, and be available only to those who register and are based in USA and Canada.

Back in August, Bungie said it would berevealing plans about the future of Destiny “soon”, in the face of layoffs and uncertainty at the studio. While Destiny: Rising is the first step towards the future of the IP, there will surely be more related to the mainline series, be it another expansion or an entirely new game.
