Summary
If you ask a fan ofResident Evil,Dead Rising, or pretty much any ofCapcom’slatest offerings, what they’d like to see the publisher remake next, you’ll more often than not be toldDino Crisis. Capcom itself revealed thatDino Crisis is one of its most requested games, alongside more obvious picks like Resident Evil, and it even recently asked fans whether they’d like to seeolder titles given the same treatment as Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster.
While are-release via the PlayStation Classic Catalogmay be enough to halt the cries for a Dino Crisis remake for now, it’s very clear that there’s a demand for one. Unfortunately, there are almost no signs that Capcom is actually planning on remaking the cult classic title anytime soon, but we know that where the big publishers fail to deliver, fans will always step in and do what must be done.
Dino Crisis Is Getting A Fan-Made Remake
First shared by ResetEra user Jawmuncher, a Dino Crisis fan running a one-man studio by the name of Steven Games Studios is attempting to create their own remake of the title called Dino Crisis: Rebirth. On the game’s Itch.io page, the developer explains that his project is “purely inspired by the original 1999 game” and not intended to be an extremely faithful recreation of the original.
That being said, the developer also explains that their goal was to “convey all the atmosphere and horror of the original” in their work, and they’ve even released a demo for free that people can try out. You can already findseveral videos on YouTubeof people playing through the demo to get a good look at the work this developer has put in, and while it does look a little janky in places, it’s very impressive for a one-person job.
The demo itself is pretty short, and you’re looking at around forty minutes to play the thing from start to finish, but it’s a pretty great idealization of what a proper Dino Crisis remake could possibly look like. Unfortunately, the developer behind Steven Games Studios doesn’t mention whether they plan on continuing development, though the fact they call this demo “a milestone” suggests that they are.
We might have to rely on fan projects like this to keep Dino Crisis alive at all. According to series creator Shinji Mikami, he believes thatthere isn’t enough space for Dino Crisis to make a comeback these days, as he believes that Cpacom’s massive series Monster Hunter is taking up too much room. If those at Capcom are thinking the same thing, then it’s possible we may never get our long-awaited return to the series after all.
