Summary

If you’re jumping on theDragon Ageseries for the first time withDragon Age: The Veilguard, you might be eager to try out the games that came before it too. However, that might be easier said than done, as the first three games not only play very differently but can be a faff to get running.

For this reason, many are interested in remasters of the first three games:Dragon Age: Origins,Dragon Age 2, andDragon Age: Inquisition. This makes sense, given thatMass Effectgot the Legendary Edition trilogy back in 2021. However, it seems that we shouldn’t get our hopes up, as this would be much more challenging to pull off than the Mass Effect counterpart.

BioWare Want To Make Dragon Age Remasters, But It Would Be Difficult

Speaking withRolling Stone, Dragon Age: The Veilguard’s creative director John Epler touched on the possibility of a Dragon Age remaster trilogy. Here, he admitted that he would personally love to see this happen, but says it would be difficult because the first two games in the series were made in the Eclipse Engine, whereas BioWare switches to Frostbite from Inquisition onwards.

“I think I’m one of about maybe 20 people left at BioWare who’s actually used Eclipse,” says Epler. “It’s something that’s not going to be as easy [as] Mass Effect, but we do love the original games. Never say never, I guess that’s what it comes down to.”

So, we might still see some kind of re-release of these older games, but don’t expect it to be thrown together as easily as Mass Effect Legendary Edition was.

Hopefully, Dragon Age: Origins will get shown some love. As players noted before The Veilguard’s launch, getting Origins to work on PC is a real pain now. It can be done with mods, but that means you can’t just pick it up and start playing as you would other games, at least not without a lot of crashes and in the worst case scanario, corrupted save files.
