Summary
Over the years that theDragon Ageseries has been going, you could argue that the Qunari have undergone extensive redesigns in almost every game. From Sten inDragon Age: Origins, to the Arishok inDragon Age 2, to Iron Bull inDragon Age: Inquisiton, all of these characters look nothing like each other, and the Qunari inDragon Age: The Veilguardis no exception.
However, the designs in Dragon Age: The Veilguard havecome under fire for being too humanized, with some claiming they just look like humans with massive foreheads and horns. A few side by side photos have been making the rounds lately, featuring Dragon Age: The Veilguard’s Qunari designs with the Arishok for the most unfair comparisons, but one BioWare developer has leaped to the defense of The Veilguard’s designs.
Over the weekend,BioWareand Dragon Age cinematic designer Derek Wilestook to social media to try and debunk some of the criticismgoing around regarding the Qunari, specifically taking issue with a particular comparison photo (which you can see above). In the tweet, Wilks points out that the Qunari used in the photo was made via the character creator, meaning someone deliberately made their Qunari look like that, and it isn’t a basis for every Qunari in the game.
Dragon Age: The Veilguard Dev Defends Qunari Designs
Wilks also then goes on to point out that the Arishok in Dragon Age 2 was a “very specific model” used just for that character, meaning you couldn’t make a Qunari that looks like him in any Dragon Age game’s character creator, even if you wanted to.
Since Dragon Age: The Veilguard’s release is still well over a month away, we’re not going to find out just how different we can make our Qunari for quite a while. However, we know that the game’s character creatoris going to be better than Inquisition’s, possiblyone of the most in-depth we’ve seen from a triple-A video game, so here’s hoping that the game will let us make a big, gruff Qunari with a smaller forehead.
