Summary

Dragon Age: The Veilguardreceived a newgameplay trailerduring Tuesday’s State of Play, showing off a fight between a Blight Dragon and the titular Veilguard.

We also got a glimpse of Ghilan’nain, one of the big bad elven deities that Solas was trying to imprison when we dropped that pillar on him, potentially dooming Thedas. Ghil, as she’s affectionately called, is seen in the trailer preparing to rip apart a Grey Warden.

Everyone’s Favourite Goddess

Ghilan’nain is an entity that wouldn’t feel out of place in a body horror film, sporting tentacles, an emaciated torso and a masked shrunken face. And yet, somehow, she still has a few adoring fans thirsting for her. Some of the comments are clearly ironic, but Ghilan’nain’s feminine status combined with her undeniable power has been turning a few heads.

“She’s glorious,” reads a comment frommedusicahon a Reddit thread about Ghilan’nain’s appearance in the trailer. “They’re thinking what she can do with those tentacles. Also, those are surprisingly wide hips,” writesTheCleverestIdiot.

This is accompanied by comments we’ve all come to expect on threads about these topics, i.e., “Mother,” “Mother is mothering,” and so on. This isn’t limited to Reddit either, if you search Ghilan’nain on X you’ll probably see some sentiments expressed that you’d rather not see.

Instead, I’ll mention one that’s funnier and less explicit from userRynthlen: “Well, I’m absolutely delighted that Ghilan’nain is out there living her best life - strangling people and blightening dragons like it’s just another day. She’s thriving.”

Dragon Age_ The Veilguard Takedown on Wraith

Ghilan’nain’s design appears to be two people fused on top of one another. This isn’t surprising as we know Ghil has experimented on herself and other creatures in her twisted pursuits. She also has a deep connection to the Blight, evidenced by her connection to the Darkspawn.

We’ll get to see much more of Ghil and her partner in crime Elgar’nan in action when Dragon Age: The Veilguard releases on October 31.
