Summary

Dragon Agehas gone through a lot of changes over the years, sometimes so drastic that almost every game feels entirely unique to the last.Dragon Age: The Veilguardlooks like yet another refresh, with new designs, two companion parties, andcomplex party members, but there is one change that the Dragon age games have made in recent years that fans wish would return in some capacity - the currency system.

If you’ve playedDragon Age Origins, you should remember that it had a fairly interesting currency system that was separated into three different coins. You could pick up gold, silver, and copper coins during your travels, and getting 100 silvers or coppers would give you one coin of the next highest grade. It wasn’t the most complex system, but it made your gold feel like it was worth a lot more.

In both Dragon Age Inquisition and The Veilguard, developerBioWarehas opted to just go for a flat number and do away with the three coin system, but this is a change that doesn’t appear to have gone down particularly well with Dragon Age fans.In a new post on the Dragon Age subreddit, user RedMajora72 explains how much they “miss the three coin system,” and it’s garnered a lot of support.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard Fans Want Origins' Currency System To Return

At the time of writing, the post is sitting at a whopping 2.4K upvotes, as hundreds of fellow Dragon Age fans reminisce on how much they enjoyed the three coin system seen in the first two games. For example, user Stolenfires loved how much the game made them “feel like a badass” upon earning their first gold coin, while user RumMaster99 says that getting a gold coin “always felt like you were RICH.”

Another user called NonSupportiveCup argued that these sorts of coin systems “add a lot of immersion to fantasy worlds,” while Zequerpg shares a similar sentiment, claiming it was immersive “how it was difficult to get your first full gold coin.” There’s definitely a lot of love for the old system, and it’s a shame to see it disappear.

Of course, you have people explaining away the change, claiming that it didn’t make much sense for an organization as big as The Inquisition to be dealing in coppers, while The Veilguard’s lack of a three coin system is explained away by the fact that Tevinter may have a different currency system altogether. However, the vast majority seem to miss the old copper/silver/gold days, and I have to agree with them.
