Summary
Dragon Age: The Veilguardis full of references to previous games, and a player has just found another one. In a line of dialogue that will only make sense to anyone who playedDragon Age: Origins, Rook references the events of one of the game’s least favourite quests - one that many like to skip of their playthroughs.
I am, of course, speaking about the Fade segment in Dragon Age: Origins. This is part of the Broken Circle quest and involves painstakingly finding your way through a maze and fighting enemies to free your companions from the Fade. Over the years, it’s gained a reputation for being one of the most frustrating parts of Origins, somethingBioWareis clearly aware of.
Dragon Age: The Veilguard Knows That We Find The Fade Annoying
“How do I get past the locks? Turn myself into a mouse? Fight a bunch of giant spiders?” asks Rook. This is a clear reference to the Fade in Origins where you had to unlock shapeshifting abilities to escape, one of the forms being a mouse.
I mean,Ilike the Fade part of Origins, but consideringthe mod to skip ithas more than 300,000 unique downloads, I think I’m in the minority there.
However, it’s also a nod to the Fade inDragon Age: Inquisition. Here, there’s an enemy type called Fearings, which take the form of huge spiders. You had to defeat a whole lot of them when you were stuck in the Fade, but it seems that Rook gets to avoid that fate, much like the infamous maze in Origins.
This is far from the only nod to previous games that players have found. As we spotted around launch, you can find the Joining chalice which was used by the Hero of Ferelden back in Origins. This is being kept in Weisshaupt, having been recovered from Ostagar. Even if The Veilguard doesn’t transport our specific characters over, it’s nice to see them acknowledged in this way.
