Summary

Dragon Age has always somewhat floundered when it comes to character creation, offering limited options, especially in the hair department, and just making it difficult to make attractive characters in general.

However, that appears to have changed inDragon Age: The Veilguard. InIGN’s latest previewof the character creator and combat, you can see the breadth of customisation available in Veilguard. We already knew about the game’scutting-edge hair physics, but now we also know just how many hairstyles will be available. There are going to be 88 hair options for non-Qunari protagonists, and 30 for Qunari. There’s also going to be 49 unique horn styles for Qunari, a race that’s been gettingflack for its visual redesign.

You’re also going to be able to adjust your Rook’s head shape, including making facial asymmetries if you wish. In a similar vein, you’ll be able to change your body shape along a triangular plane, providing the kind of body diversity that’s been absent from previous entries in the series.

World State Customisation

Fans will be incredibly pleased to find out that you’re able to create the Inquisitor within The Veilguard’s character creator, allowing you to make an Inquisitor without the awful green lighting of Inquisition’s character creator. Speaking of which, you can also cycle through several different lighting options to see how your Rook is going to look in different lights.

It’s not explored in the video but the section where you customise your Inquisitor is entitled ‘Customise World State’. Now that Dragon Age Keep has been abandoned, it’s difficult to know just how deep this system goes and if you can customise every minute decision you make across the series. If Dragon Age: The Veilguard doesn’t acknowledge that I engineered Bella’s takeover of the Redcliffe Tavern in Origins, then what’s the point?
